2. This family emigrated to NSW Australia in about 1830.
Per Rod Selden
James and Mary had many (7) children between 1816 and 1830. In 1832 James and his young son John (my ancestor) were convicted of housebreaking. James was transported in 1832 and John in 1833. (John had to hang around to face a more serious charge). John married in 1842 and established a large family (9 children, 8 having large families of their own). They were reasonably successful and some members of James' family came out to Australia subsequently to join them (in 1850's and in 1870's). I don't know whether James' wife Mary came to Australia or not and presume not. I believe that James fought in the wars against Napoleon.
James was transported on the Lady Harewood(3) arriving in Australia in 1832. He was tried in Herefordshire in 1831 at the age of 46 and received a 7 year sentence (Index of convicts transported to Port Jackson, Lesley Uebel)
The Lady Harewood(3) arrived in Port Jackson on 5/8/1832. Its Port of Departure was Portsmouth. James received his Certificate of Freedom on 18 Sep 1838.
