I ended up with a cold over the Father's Day weekend so we had Stan's parents over for Father's Day yesterday.
On Monday I drove out to the East side of town to get everything for the kids' cake decorating class the following day. Good thing I did too because on Tuesday we were late for the class. I had made, fortunately, too many cakes. One double layer I put on top of our cabinet in the living room, the other I hid behind pictures on the sideboard. I did this with the intention of keeping the cakes away from small fingers. Unfortunately there is no place you can hide a cake from an ant. The guy just sprayed the previous Friday. I am none too happy.
The kids enjoyed their class and then we ate at Chik-Fil-A. I know, you are just shocked about that. Unfortunately we missed the library storytime for the cake class. K had another 10 books for the summer program so I took the kids earlier in the day to get his prizes, turn in our books and get some more. We found a video of Pinky and the Brain. I love that cartoon. We also found Mulan 2 which I have no intentions of buying. When we got up to the desk to check out the fellow says it will be $1 for Mulan 2 and it is due in two days. I asked where the sticker was and he said they didn't do that anymore. Instead they now have stickers indicating which videos are free due to their being educational. I swear I still haven't figured out what is educational about Pinky and the Brain. Perhaps it's historical?
Wednesday I took the older two to the ICH for the Hymnsing. Poor Hailey did not get a rest earlier and she was nodding off in the chair.
On Thursday we went to see my grandmother. The kids always have fun and this time Stanley had someone who could truly play the Pretty, Pretty Princess game with him. I tell him that God is preparing him for a future with 20 daughters. :-)
On Friday Hailey kindly loaned us her copy of Mulan 2. I'm glad she did because I'd have been mad if I'd had to pay any amount of money to watch it. It was bad and that's my official review of it.
On Saturday I went for my semi-annual haircut. I only got an inch off. I would have taken off more but she was convinced she could not get rid of my friz. (The friz is a result of me only getting it cut every 6-9 mos and my old hairdresser never had any problems.) I'm not sure how I like this lady. I miss my old hairdresser. :-( But this lady is $10 cheaper and I don't have to drive to Orange to see her.
Today we had a nice day. I was reminded again of why I homeschool when I read a post at a homeschool group I am in. Fortunately for Stanley I read it while he was in the midst of his math work. When he finished enough and corrected his mistakes we went swimming. It was a perfect day and we swam for about an hour. The clouds were very nice today and we had to spend time looking at cloud pictures. Our property is elevated enough that when we are in the pool we can barely see the tops of the single-story houses in the nieghborhood. There are only four two story houses so they don't block out much. We can see Baldy from one spot and there is still snow up there. I saw Big Bear on Thursday and they have snow up top as well. I wonder if it will melt before August.
