I hold a Bachelor's Degree from Penn State University, served a 2-year volunteer mission in Japan for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and worked for the National Forest Service and in the private sector prior to coming to Idaho. I worked for Canyon County Sheriff's Department for 4 years, obtaining the rank of corporal prior to transferring to the Juvenile Detention Center, where I have been the Administrator since 1993.
I presently serve as President of the National Juvenile Detention Association. I am Secretary and previously served as President of the Idaho Association of County Juvenile Justice Administrators, and a member of the Idaho Criminal Justice Grants Review Board. Other professional memberships include the Idaho Juvenile Justice Association, the National Juvenile Court Services Association, and the American Correctional Association. I teach Ethics and Juvenile Detention Standards at the POST Academy.
I married Janalyn Cheney in 1983 and we have 5 children.

Would you ever join a militia??? NO WAY???Read carefully- US Code TITLE 10 Subtitle A Part 1 Chapter 13 Sec 311. reads as follows: Militia: composition and classes (a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard. (b) The classes of the militia are: (1) the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard and the Naval Militia; and (2) the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia.
