| This is a detailed and rather lengthy alphabetical introduction to Talis. It also tells you how to create your character and what I expect with character background and history. [For game flavor please see this link here] _________________ Adventurers: Traditionally people who quest either for hire or on their own to solve problems, meet new people and generally earn the right to have wonderous stories told about them. Although, adventurers a thought to be daft to go looking for trouble and injury, they are nevertheless well respected and enjoy beneficial status. Alignments: There are no alignments. Evil is relative and usually interpreted as an enemy who intends harm. But do note the PCs are the good guys and true evil is obvious. |

| Background: Most children are trained by their parents and caste to follow in their footsteps. Some children are sent away from home as an apprentice or fosterling---these are options for characters, but a reason why this indentured arrangement ended will need to be worked out. Blood Payment: This is a standing demand of the Water Caste. Depending on the corruption of the officials, they may choose from the lowest castes or may make surgical selections for political gain or just to create terror. Blood payments can be bought and sold as a future or a direct trade. Castes (pronounced "cast"): This is a very stratified culture expressed through castes, but it is one in which most castes freely mingle. Although the upper castes usually have slaves or underlings who move among the lessor castes for them. The following are some of the castes (I'm still working on this, and suspect that I may never be done). - Untouchables Slaves: owe water debt or have been sold into debt by family, caste or debtors. Outlaws: the Solstistalis equivalent of "big game" with no bag limies Undead: mostly zombies but others forms as well, mindless labor There are no caste markings except for slaves who carry the ones of their owners - Dirt Caste Farm Labor: tasks too complex for the undead to perform These caste markings are brown dots - Farm Caste Animal Labor: milking, slaughtering, etc. Farmers: better labor then the Dirt Caste These caste markings are black dots - Service Caste The Unseen: sewage cleaners, trash prickers The Unheard: upper caste and wealthy servants The Laughter: entertainers The Unspoken: assassins, all things thievery These caste markings are white dots - Crafter Caste Hand Labor: clay, mud bricks, weaving mats and cloth Food Labor: processing, preparing and preservingfood Cloth Labor: weaving spinning Wicker Labor: baskets, many wood substitute objects These caste marking are saffron dots - Trader Caste Travel Labor: caravans, porters Legs: common messengers, street criers These caste markings are red dots - Administration Caste Thought Labor: organizing, directing, recording caste markings are green dots Next |
