Trip:   Mountain Advenure, Embrun, Southern Alps

Date: Saturday 7th and Sunday 15th July, 2001.

Open to: All students at Emanuel School.

Programme of activities
The programme makes full use of the regions natural assets and offers a very diverse choice of activities.  Experiencing the exhilaration of white water rafting, trekking on alpine trials, windsurfing, topper sailing, kayaking, and a chance to try climbing and abseiling, enables groups to enjoy every element of the mountains.  If your son/daughter is over 14 at the time of departure, they may  have the opportunity of challenging themselves with hydrospeeding, hot dogging and extreme white water rafting.  Add the adventurous overnight expedition and mountain bivouac, plus an optional excursion to La Graves ice caves and Europes highest city Briancon, and be ready for a week of incredible action.

Accommodation / Facilities
The centre we will stay at is 2 km south-west of Embrun (between Gap and Briancon), a buzzing medieval town situated amid magnificent mountains and lakes in the French Alps.  Spectacular scenery and a varied landscape make this an ideal location for a challenging outdoor adventure programme.
The campsite we will be staying at is set amid pine trees on the shore of Lac du Serre Poncon, occupying a self-contained section on a fully equipped 4-star campsite.
Students share 4-6 berth tents equipped with beds and mattresses.
There is a lakeside beach and a small selection of shops and restaurants just outside the centre.

Price
This is 425 in total. I feel the price does represent great value for money for an adventure trip in the French Alps lasting 9 days.

Travel details
The trip will take place in the first week of the Summer holidays 2001.  Pupils must take their own 10 year passport. (Please tell me if your son / daughter is a holder of a non-EU passport).
The tour company is PGL.  We will travel to the Alps by executive coach (which will stay with us for the duration of the trip) which has recliner seats, video, toilet, drinks facility and air conditioning.   We will take the Dover-Calais ferry or Le Shuttle (yet to be confirmed).  The approximate transfer time from Calais to our centre in the Alps is 14 hours driving time.  Six nights will be spent at the centre.

Staffing
There will be one adult for every 8 pupils, together with instructors for all activities.  There will be a high adult to pupil ratio.  Taking into account PGLs adventure staff, there will be approximately one adult to every four children at the centre.

If you would like your child to go on the trip, please contact Mr Bettinson as soon as possible.
