The Sinus Cough
I had a mild but irritating cough a few years ago, and
my doctor diagnosed it as due to "post nasal drip". My sinuses were congested,
resulting in a nasal drip down my throat that caused me to cough. I was
prescribed anti-histamines, nasal sprays, decongestants and cough suppressants.
Nothing really helped, so I searched for remedies from alternative medicine
and finally found something that killed the problem. The savior was a nasal
saline water rinse called "Jala neti". Click
here to learn more about Jala neti. Presently though, I'm using prescription
Flonase©
that's available at low cost at Pharmacy
Discounter that works pretty well.
Visual Migraine: temporary loss of vision
Visualize this: you're driving on the highway at 70 mph,
and, for no apparent reason, slowly losing the ability to see normally.
Within a couple of minutes, you become temporarily visually impaired. All
you can see are bright spots of light flashing in front of you. The only
"fortunate" thing is that you have some time to pull over before anything
worse happens, and your vision returns to normal within the next ten minutes.
I've had such vision-loss episodes once every couple of years or so, and
even went to see a doctor the first time it occurred (I was about 15),
but there was no diagnosis. A search on the net revealed that I had visual
migraine. Instead of the usual kind of migraine that causes a spasm
of the arteries in the brain resulting in a headache, this form of migraine
results in temporary loss of vision. My present doctor tells me nothing
can be done about it, but at least it's not something to worry about.
Angular Cheilitis : Split corners of the mouth
I started to develop some cracks near the corners of my
mouth, where the upper lip meets the lower lip. The mouth had almost split
apart at the junction of the lips, turning red and dry, and it was very
painful to eat, talk, and yawn. The first time the corners of my mouth
cracked, it lasted about 6 weeks. The second time, it had migrated to the
other side of the mouth, and seemed to last forever. I surfed the internet
and found a discussion on a bulletin
board saying the problem was two-fold: lack of vitamin B, and a fungal
infection. I took some vitamin B-complex supplements and applied Lotrimin
(Clotrimazole) and Hydrocortisone cream (all of which I got over the counter
from the grocery store) for a few days, that finally got rid of the cracks.
