Wasps

Opened lapbook with coloring page of a wasp, venn diagram comparing bees and wasps, lift the flap book with members of family "hymenoptera," and vocabulary words in pink mini-matchbooks. Center flap lifted to reveal a drawing of wasps by younger sister, layered-look book on wasp stings and top-tab book also on wasp stings.

In 2003 we did a unit study on wasps.  This was prompted by my daughter's fascination with the paper wasps that were building a nest in the eaves outside the back door.  We would watch their progress daily.  Later on, we also saw digger wasps outside our front door, digging homes in the garden.

Probably the highlight of the unit was the survey my daughter did on whether the people she knew were allergic to bees and wasps.  This was detailed in the dark blue top-tab book.  She surveyed all the people she met for several days, and compiled the results using Microsoft Excel, and she printed a pie chart.
