Sharon's Room
This is my little cozy corner. Where I listen to my favorite music and do my favorite things: Cross stitch, Sewing, Reading Mysterys, and Brewing Beer. (In fact, I'm probably holding a glass of my homebrewed Oktoberfest right now!)
Right now my main concern is the budget. With my taking a leave from lawyering to be mom for a while and all of us living on one salary, it gets pretty tight. Especially around here where everything seems to cost a mint and a half. (And we still have those pesky student loans too.) One way that we have been attempting to save money has been with once-a-month cooking (OAMC for short). I have discovered some fantastic sites for OAMC which have really helped out with this daunting prospect. OAMC Links
Parenting Issues
Oh, if I could tell you all the ways I am a different parent than I thought I'd be before I had kids. Before I had children of my own, I had a vision of my work schedule remaining unchanged, picking up the kids from the babysitter, and advancing my career. I never considered breastfeeding, had never heard of attachment parenting, and figured homeschooling should be illegal. What an about face! When did the change take place? I think it occurred gradually at first. I was dismissed from my position as a lawyer when preterm labor put me on bedrest for ten weeks while I was pregnant with Angela. I began to realize that I would do anything to bring her into this world as a healthy full-term infant.
The moment I held her in my arms and responded to her little cries by nursing her, my heart was lost. I knew that I could never abandon her at a babysitter's or a daycare. All of a sudden my career became trivial by comparison. I've watched her grow and thrive, becoming a generous, compassionate, intelligent person. As her same-age peers went off to preschool, I began to see a change occur in them, not for the better. Determined that she was not going to lose that sweet, loving nature, by sending her off to school, I began to research other alternatives. My husband and I thought long and hard about it, and have decided to homeschool our children for as long as we can. So here I am, staying at home, homeschooling my kids, breastfeeding them into their toddler years, snuggling with them in bed, and generally doing everything I never dreamed I'd be doing.
Weird, huh?
