ART RODRIGUES

As some of you may know, in January 1962, I married my high school sweetheart, Roberta Fields. We had 3 sons and we were married for 8 years. We re-married in 1974 and divorced again in 1980. ( Okay, I'm a slow learner.)

In 1989, I married my soul mate Karla. She had 2 adopted daughters and I adopted them too. Karla is a labor and delivery nurse and she teaches birthing classes. She is also a family therapist. ( Yes, she does have me analyzed pretty good.)

My oldest son, Timothy, is 39. Bay area people may have seen him doing pledge breaks for KQED. He is being courted to run for local politics in Berkeley where he lives with his mate Alan.
My second son, Theodore, is 38 and is married to Didi. Their son, Bradley (16), was my first grandchild. They live in Livermore and Ted and Didi both work at LLNL.
Thomas, who is 35, lives in Tracy with his wife Samantha. They have my second and third grandsons, William (13) and Christopher (8). Tom is an Alameda County Sheriff's Deputy stationed at Santa Rita Jail in Pleasanton.
Denise is 23 and she is the mother of my fourth grandson, Jose (3.5). She is divorced and currently she and Jose are living in our house. Denise is a hairdresser at a shop here in Livermore.
Debra is 22. Karla adopted her as a newborn 8 months after she adopted Denise. Deb is attending S.F. Academy of Art College and is planning to be a fashion designer. She works part time as an office assistant for a chiropractor and part time as a server at Strizzi's Restaurant in Livermore. She also lives with us. ( It makes for a pretty interesting household.)

My father passed away in 1986 after suffering a stroke. My mother is living in Sacramento and she's doing well.

My first real job out of high school was working in the kitchen at Peralta Hospital in Oakland. I was working part time but when I got married, I switched to full time. In 1963, I started working for the US Postal Service in Oakland. I transferred to the post office in Livermore in 1964 and we moved there in 1965. During a brutal summer in 1966 while delivering mail in 102 degree weather, a friend suggested I apply for a job as a computer operator at Livermore Radiation Laboratory (now called Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory). I didn't have the schooling they were looking for, A.A. in data processing, but after seeing my score on the aptitude test, they hired me on the spot. ( Not too dumb after all.) I have been there ever since. I did have 2 18-month breaks in service when I went to work as a computer operator on the Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands. ( Look it up in an atlas.) This was a civilian job, not the military. I am currently classified as a programing tech associate. I have a total combined time at LLNL of 32 years. It's hard to believe, but I am about 2 years from retirement.

I enjoy reading and movies. Karla and I enjoy cruising. ( On a ship, not in a hot rod.) I am a deacon at Livermore First Presbyterian Church. I have done some WEB work for a couple of different groups.

I am very much looking forward to the Sixes July Shindig. See you there.
