MelissaRenee: enough time has lapsed that the two races have split and adapted to there new situations
MelissaRenee: the mer-folk resent what the shadwe did to them and have been working to regain control of them
MelissaRenee: so they can get even by warping the shadwe

sixpixies: Maybe long ago, the Fintas rescued a shadwe and was then given the abiltity to breathe air?
MelissaRenee: that could work, but then that woman's offspring were born different
sixpixies: eventually staying on the land
sixpixies: I think that the mer-folk are the original species
