The Monk is a Warrior because:- He cannot cast spells
The Monk
is a Priest because:
- He earns his keep by being a great fighter
- He has a Warrior's THAC0
- He has a Warrior's Saving Throws (or close to it)
- There is a special quest in SoA that is only open to Fighters, Barbarians, and Monks
- In ToB, Monks get the same High-Level Ability pool that Fighters & Barbarians do- He uses the D8 Hit Die, and gains 2 hp per level after Level 9
Because almost all of a Monk's abilities are level-based, they start out very weak, but eventually will have an awesome THAC0, AC, Saving Throws, Magic Resistance, immunities, all that good stuff. They
can also Stealth, but not Backstab, and Detect Traps, but not Disarm them. They can use any weapon that a Thief can use, except for any weapon that requires both hands (Bow, Crossbow, & Staff). They are
at their best, however, with their bare hands: At Level 15, a Monk's fists do 1D20 damage with each hit. They can use their skill of Stunning Blow a certain number of times per day, forcing their
opponent to make a Save vs. Death or be knocked unconscious, and they also gain the skill of Quivering Palm, which can cause instant death. Monks are not allowed to wear armor, helms, or shields,
but their natural Armor Class improves over time, and they have a Deflect Missiles ability to give a further boost to their AC against ranged weapons. They gain Attacks per Round at the same rate as a
Warrior, and as they gain levels, their unarmed attack is treated as a magical weapon in regards to THAC0 bonus and what it can hit. Monks get 10 Thieving points per level to put into Find Traps, Hide
in Shadows, and Move Silently. Monks can also use any of the Mage Wands (provided their INT is high enough), but this is most likely an oversight by the programmers; to avoid cheesiness, don't give your
Monk any Wand that a Fighter can't use. Monks must be of Lawful alignment.
- He gets no hp bonuses for a Constitution higher than 16
- He cannot get an 18(xx) Strength
- He can use Priest scrolls
- His proficiency stars follow the exact same pattern as a Cleric

The THAC0 listed is a Monk's THAC0 with bare fists; note that it takes into account the THAC0 bonus conferred by "Fist treated as Magical Weapon," in the third column. A high or low Strength will
affect THAC0, of course. The Attacks/Round and Damage columns also reflect a Monk's attack without a weapon, but the Speed Factor column lists the speed bonuses given to a Monk with a weapon.
A Movement Rate that is 2 units faster than normal is just enough to be noticeable when walking short distances. The table above was shamelessly copied from GameBanshee's website. They thanked The Grey
Ranger for the data, and boy, so do I! But they only listed data for SoA--here's what I found out about Monks in ToB:
The monk's magic resistance stops increasing at 78% (Level 26).
Level 21: -1 AC (Note that this bonus is not mentioned in the table above. Perhaps in order to obtain it, you need to have installed ToB before your Monk reaches Level 21.)
Level 25: His fists become +4 weapons
Levels 24, 27, 30, 35, 40: Further -1 bonus to AC
