Our Adventures in Camping

Oct 6, 2003 - We got another camper and we're going camping This weekend!

I was introduced to camping by my husband. He grew up camping and his family belonged to a national camping club (what was then called The National Campers and Hikers Association or NCHA for short). The only exposure I had camping was when I was little I went tent camping for a week with my family. I think I was like 5 and ended up with tonsilitis. Anyhow, he had me go camping in his parents motorhome a few times and I liked camping so much that we went tent camping for our "termporary" honeymoon (Went to Cancun, Mexico a month after the wedding). We later bought an very small, old, used class C type motorhome (Coachman?). Charles spend that winter remodeling the entire inside. We camped in it for a year and a half when we got an offer for 3x what we paid for it on a trade for a newer and slightly bigger class C motorhome. It was a nice Tioga Montera model. We camped in that for about 4 1/2 years before we had to sell it. Now we have a very large Jayco Cardinal Pop-up camper. Actually, I like it better than I thought I would. It is real affordable for a family of 6! The kids like it too so we think we'll keep it a while till we can aford to get the upright that Charles wants. Me? I dont care much, as long as I get to go.

FCRV

Since we love to camp we decided to join the Family Campers and RVers (FCRV) organization. It was called National Campers and Hikers Association (NCHA) till about 1993 when they changed the name to FCRV.

In 2002 we were appointed as the National Adult Activities Directors. I haved served as a National Trustee from 2000-2002 as Corresponding Secretary.

We belong to 2 chapters and camp with them both pretty regularly in addition to doing other camping on our own.

We both had also been our State Association's Conservation director too for about 5 years. We are real active in the programs they offer and attend the yearly summer Campvention/Rally in July. We've been to lots of different places from Maine to Iowa and this year we're headed to Kansas. We have lots of fun and have met the greatest people here. Contact me if you want more information on this organization.

I plan to scan and post some of our camping photos to prove you can camp with babies and multiples. Even in a tent camper! I also plan to add some camping tips and recipes in the future too. Check back soon to see what's new!

Hope to see you around the campfire!
