The Merchant of Venice was written in 1596. A merchant, in exchange for a loan, makes a deal with a Jew for some money. Although no interest was charged, this price for not repaying it on time is huge.

William Shakespeare is possibly the most influential writter to date. Famous works like Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and Julius Ceaser are attributed to him. Born 1564, Shakespeare's first works were poems. In November of 1582 he married Anne Hathaway and his first child was born in May 1583. William helped a small group of others form a new theatre group in 1594 and began producing two plays a year. He died at the age of 52 on April 23 1616. The widowed Anne died in 1623 and was buried along side her husband.
