S'vilen was born
to a pair of crafters - tanner mother Sipali and vintner father
Aivan - at Benden Hold. Being appropriately busy with their respective
crafts, they decided to foster him with Sipali's sister at Fort
Hold, where she herself had grown up. Sallia had quite a few
children to keep after, with her own brood, plus quite a few
nieces and nephews. Despite her hectic life, Sallia and her husband
Landen always had a little time for each kid. All the children
were loved, adored and encouraged. Young Sivilen, and the sister
that soon followed him to the happy family, thrived in this environment.
He was always willing to try anything that seemed fun. From the
moment he took his first steps it seemed as though life was not
enough for him. It is not that he was always happy, though he
usually was, it is more that he truly lived everything he experienced.
Generally loved by everyone he knew, he has hardly known a moment's
uncertainty. He and his best friend, Masvek, got into trouble
for their pranks. Never the type that would hurt anyone, the
pranks still caused chaos. There was the time they filled all
of Siv's foster-siblings' beds with trundlebugs. And there was
that time when they sneaked into the latrines late at night.
They took the stalls apart and put them back together upside
down. Unfortunately, at least in S'vilen's opinion, Masvek decided
in the fall of their thirteenth turn to apprentice to the Woodcraft,
leaving Sivilen at Fort Hold alone.
S'vilen spent the time after that
then getting into even worse trouble than before, as if to prove
he can have just as much fun without Masvek. Whereas before,
the pair might pull a prank every month or so, S'vilen pulled
one every few sevendays. He sneaked into the Steward's quarters
and rearranged the room so everything was on opposite sides.
He was also responsible for arranging a prank where the Harper
was called out of the room for a few minutes. He marshalled all
the students out into the hall and into another room. The Harper
returned to find his students gone. He went off to complain,
and all the students were in their seats when the Harper returned
with the Steward. He managed to avoid getting caught, most of
the time, but he did get into trouble for that last one. The
students just couldn't resist telling people about it, and who
organized it, and eventually the wrong people heard. He was assigned
extra chores in the stables (cleaning tack, stalls and runners)
to cut down on his free time. The idea was that he wouldn't have
time to execute his plans, but they just given him more time
to think about what he might try next.
While serving this
sentence, Sivilen was intercepted on his way from the stables
to the hall for some supper by a brownrider from Fort. G'thon
engaged him in a brief conversation, then asked him to stand
for the current clutch of Rhiannoth and Zhirith. Siv immediately
agreed to do so and was whisked off to Fort Weyr for Candidacy.
The youngest candidate, he still had fun, and actually managed
to actually stay out of serious trouble - perhaps helped by the
crush he developed on fellow candidate Eliwys. He had something
to think about besides pranks while doing his chores. All too
soon, the eggs hatched, and the boy met Burning Passions Bronze
Perymith on the Sands and began his
Weyrlinghood with brozeriders N'veen and T'myn, brownriders Talya
and A'nol, bluerider D'rien and greenriders S'mon and Liselle,
among other (NPC) weyrlings. Too young, when he graduated, to
join the fighting wings, he spent eighteen months running errands
and doing other odd chores while awaiting his sixteenth turnday.
Life thereafter proceeded at a nice pace and he soon met an enchanting
and fascinating Healer Journeyman by the name of Moloka. Rather
taken with one another, they kept up a semi-casual relationship
that was interrupted only by S'vilen spending a number of months
as Watchrider for South Boll.
The first major change in his
life after Impression came immediately before the next four.
He was promoted by his clutchmate and Weyrleader, T'myn, to Weyrsecond.
He held this position for only a few months before T'myn was
injured in a snow rescue and S'vilen was thrust into the position
of Acting Weyrleader. He chose J'van for his Acting Weyrsecond,
and then only a few months later Perymith outflew Rasnauth to
catch Monaco Weyr's Junior Gold Leyrith - whose rider was Eliwys, the
one who Siv had spent so many hours mooning over as a candidate.
However, Eliwys was romantically involved with J'van, and Siv
wasn't about to interfere despite his lingering crush. The young
bronzerider was suddenly caught between his position as Acting
Weyrleader and his duty to Monaco as rider of their clutch's
sire. Fortunately Ceristh rose before Leyith clutched and J'van
became Weyrleader of Fort, relieving S'vilen of his responsibility
as Fort's Acting Weyrleader. Able to relax, he spent his days
in the sun, soothing the overprotective Perymith, and thinking
up ways to trick the touchy parents into letting candidates on
the sands for egg touchings.
Leyrith's eggs did Hatch, including
a small gold, much to Perymith's delight and pride. The 30 hatchlings
Impressed to 30 young men and women, and S'vilen was soon on
his way back to Fort - to another surprise. Yilisa informed him
that she was pregnant and that the father could be no one but
him. His own delight at this news, and the subsequent birth of
their son Isaen was even worse than Perymith's, but most forgave
him. Meanwhile, he maintained his semi-serious relationship with
Moloka, though repeated prods by J'van that he ought to weyrmate
her were met with staunch resistance, and she never hinted at
a desire to do so. Some whispered that it was because of his
secret desire for Monaco's Junior Weyrwoman, but S'vilen affected
not to hear those rumors, even when that same Junior Weyrwoman
transferred to Fort. He didn't even bat an eyelash when she weyrmated
J'van, and so the rumors died a bit.
For nearly a turn, S'vilen was
transferred to Dawn Wing to lead it while searching for a suitable
wingrider to train to replace him. For one reason or another,
no one quite fit the bill at that point, and S'vilen's tenure
lasted much longer than originally intended. Eventually, with
the recent graduation of Yilisa's final weyrling class, Storm
Wing's acting Wingsecond was moved to Dawn Wing to take over
as Wingleader, with one of Storm's Wingriders as her wingsecond.
Over time, it seemed that Moloka and S'vilen had drifted apart.
Though they still seemed to enjoy one another's company immensely,
less time seemed to have been spent with one another. Perhaps
it had something to do with S'vilen's required move from his
comfy ground weyr to one higher on the bowl wall, about which
he grumbled quite a bit.
A few months later, Leyrith took it on herself to rise again, and Perymith was determined to catch her. He was fidgety and anxious for hours before he began to blood, but S'vilen was a little slow to figure it out. Finally, the dragons were off, and the riders were waiting in the weyr. Much to the delight of both bronze and rider, it was indeed Perymith who won the golden prize! Soon, some 31 eggs were baking on the Fortian Sands and two dragons were guarding them fiercely. J'van hardly seemed pleased by this turn of events, and those whispers of a covert liaison between Eliwys and S'vilen resurfaced, especially because S'vilen was sleeping in Eliwys' weyr. Some refused to believe she was sleeping elsewhere. Relations between Weyrleader and Weyrsecond became even more strained when Perymith accidently stepped on the leg of a candidate who was on the sands to touch the eggs. However, the hatching finally came, and 31 hatchlings Impressed - including another gold to bolster Fort Weyr's ranks. Although Perymith prodded S'vilen about it being his turn to procreate again, no babies seem likely to follow this stint on the Sands. One weyrling in particular seemed to have a crush on S'vilen. While not all that unusual, what was unusual was the S'vilen decided to buy her a present for her graduation. Two wine glasses etched in a 'flame' pattern were purchased, the date of the graduation added once bought. Just before the graduation, Avila's green rose, and C'daer and L'in began an argument in the middle of it, while Alora and S'vilen and the others stayed out of it. C'daer then punched L'in, creating a minor uproar enough to jerk S'vilen to his feet and upset Perymith. L'in's Honeath ended up catching despite the altercation. Alora being the particular weyrling, S'vilen resolved to stay away lest he attempt to break the weyrling rules. He ran off to comfort Perymith only to later watch as C'daer carried Alora away. Shocked, he then sulked throughout the graduation, his ego bruised by a woman he thought liked him leaving with someone else right in front of him. He gave Alora her gifts, but he was still sulking, and, it being rather obvious, she knew something was wrong. So they talked, but then he got called away, and she still seemed involved with C'daer, though she'd said it was just a friends sort of thing. Eventually, after a picnic on the beach, their relationship began. Not much later, S'vilen discovered he was expecting a second child, this one with Elfarran, greenrider and Weyrlingmaster at Monaco Weyr. Thrilled, he started spending a lot of his free time there, while still maintaining his other relationships.
Then, a most persuasive woman appeared in his life, a beautiful woman who simply reeked of sensuality and had decided S'vilen would be her next conquest. He didn't like the woman, but it was hard not to be attracted to her. However, he avoided her as best he could until the day he came home from sweeps and found her /in/ his weyr. She told him if he could carry her to the ledge, she'd leave him alone. He tried, but she didn't exactly keep her hands to herself while he tried, and he didn't make it. Ashamed, he avoided Alora, and didn't tell Elfarran, as Dastria took up residence in his weyr. Although he eventually apologized to Alora for abandoning her without a word, she was upset and needed time to think. Dastria stayed for a month before he managed to trick her into going to Telgar Weyr with him, where he left her. Alora still didn't seem to have forgiven him, and he moped, drinking a bit much, working a bit much, and being sort of crabby although mention of his daughter always cheered him up. This daughter had been born about two sevendays before he rid himself of Dastria. Perhaps little Siarran had given him the strength to do it. Well, after a while, S'vilen pulled himself together, seemingly recovered from the loss of Alora. He resumed his casual relationship with the bluerider Thera and seemed mostly pleased with life again.
And so, time went on and the children grew and other dragons hatched, one bronze, Vith, going to S'vilen's cousin Eonwar, who became E'tren. Thera went her own way, and gossip had it S'vilen was without any women in his life for more than a few nights. Except that is, for the couple months he was rather scarce, rumor had it visiting a redheaded minecroft girl. When Siarran was a few months past her first turnday, she came to Fort with her nanny to stay for a few months and get to know her big brother and the rest of her father's family. Isaen, nearing 6, was publicly disdainful of the little girl, but whenever he thought no one was looking, doted on her. Sisala spoiled both children, and all the aunts and uncles and cousins declared Siarran adorable.
A gradual attraction began to form between S'vilen and the Weyrwoman, Andariel, as he began to give her dancing lessons. He resisted it for some time, believing that such a relationship could lead to trouble, but when she finally surprised him with a kiss, he gave in and they began to see each other in secret. He even, for the first time in his life, promised to be faithful. It even lasted for months, until the night Andariel's gold Llianth rose to be caught by L'in's brown Honeath instead of Perymith. Upset and more than a little influenced by the flight, S'vilen wound up in bed with one of the Weyr residents, a young woman called Taniel. Fearing Andariel knew, S'vilen avoided her and she, fearing he was mad about L'in, avoided him. That is until an accident in Fall sent both Perymith and S'vilen to the infirmary. Worry overcame her fears, and S'vilen, thinking himself forgiven, gave voice to his relief only to discover that he certainly was not forgiven. Though he hoped for that, things were never the same, and at last he gave up.
It was not long after that that an argument between J'van and Jalis had the former off to Monaco with Eliwys when Ceristh rose in the midst of a storm. Perymith joined the chase and wound up the victor, unseating J'van and earning himself a new title. It was hardly a surprise that J'van then chose to join his weyrmate in the southern Weyr she led, but perhaps more of a surprise when Rasnauth caught Leyrith a few sevendays later, returning the title of Weyrleader to him, only for a different Weyr.
Meanwhile, S'vilen settled into Weyrleading at Fort Weyr, finding many things much to his liking. His friendship with the bluerider Osasune grew over the next months, swept along by a number of entertaining interactions. At one point, she was lamenting that people saw her only as a friend and never more and he told her that he'd have spent the night with her instead of Taniel if she'd acted remotely interested. Finally, one night found the pair flipping a coin to determine whether she would stay the night. Morning found her still there, and a new relationship in the offing, though S'vilen was particularly wary of promises after the disaster with Andariel. Of course, as fate would have it, Andariel was not as firmly decided against him as he had thought, and she soon asked him to have her back, no strings attached. Though tempted, he wasn't prepared to end things with Osasune, though she offered, and felt that it wouldn't work unless he did. Some months later, his long-time friendship with Avila changed, becoming more than that as well, though both were clear all along that it was meant to be casual..
Though S'vilen tried to balance the two women, it was not always easy, and it came to a head at a weyrling graduation - the riders of Llianth's first clutch. S'vilen felt Osasune and Avila put him in a bad position as both seemed to expect his attention. He responded by ignoring them both, and a few sevendays later gave them each a 'friends' talk, reasoning that as Weyrleader, he didn't have time to keep up a real relationship and it was bad for the Weyr if he tried. And so began his longest run of celibacy, lasting a good two turns before he started rationalizing that casual, temporary involvements might not cost him too much, and he'd be rather happier, and therefor it would be good for the Weyr after all.
