Exploring Peru: Machu Picchu and the Incan Ruins
Viva El Peru!
An Amazing trip despite having to take some post op precautions.  Peru is really a beautiful country with a unique cultural history.  As you know, Peru is home to the Inca tribes of South America and was subject to colonial conquest of the 16th Century.

Lima ....
Rather gloomy in the winter, often going weeks without a ray of sunshine.  But on the positive side, Lima does have a great night life (bars closing at 6 or 7am and tons of shopping for the local tourist.)  Some of the best clubs to go to are whats called Penas where they show off cultural dances from different regions of the country.
Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu, a village with a view!  Constructed in the early 15th Century, and later abandoned in the 16th, MP is one of the most well preserved sites of the Inca ruins.  Though never conquered by the spanish, it was discovered in 1911 by an American explorer named Hiram Bingham.  I wasn't in good enough condition to do the 3-day hike up the Incan trail, (I blame that on all the steak and pasta I had over the summer) So I took the train to a small village and then a bus up to the top of the mountain.
Really a magical site.  It's amazing to think that the Inca hand carried tens of thousands of rocks and boulders up the mountain to build this beautiful hide away.  The village is separated into three areas - agricultural, urban, and religious and the structures are arranged so that the function of the buildings matches the form of their surroundings. The agricultural terracing and aqueducts take advantage of the natural slopes; the lower areas contain buildings occupied by farmers and teachers, and the most important religious areas are located at the crest of the hill, overlooking the lush Urubamba Valley thousands of feet below.
The best way to keep warm and maintain your energy is to drink cocoa leaf tea.  It doesn't look like much, but it works all the same.
Like the Brazialians, Peruvians are big on Jesus!
