Thailand's Ancient Capital of Ayutthaya |

Capital of Thailand for more than 400 years (1350-1767), Ayuttaya remains the kingdoms most historical and influential dynasty. During the height of its reign nearly a million people lived in the province. Now days, roughly a hundred thousand. The Burmese invaded the capital in 1767, but just like the American's, they declared an early victory, only to be driven out less than a year later |

In almost all of the temple sites you will notice a certain affinity for symetry, an element of structural art and design that is seen throughout Thai culture. Also, multiple Buddha's can be seen at just about every temple. Not sure why this is. Next to Sukhothai, Ayutthaya is probably one of the better preserved sites. |

They say the best time to go is during the Loy Kratong festival in November, which is what we did and sure enough the weather was perfect. It took us three hours by taxi and about $30 to get there, but on the way back one hour by train and only 25 cents! I just dont get how the economy works in this countrybut it seems like it is very difficult for the poor to improve their quality of lifewith the rich getting richer and the poor just getting poor. (much like in the states, but with less opportunity) |
