Cabildo

In the organization of colonial cities, Cabildos were the administrative head of the city, also in charge of justice. It was a collective body. The building of the Cabildo of Buenos Aires was the place in which took place the Revolution of May, in 1810 inspired in the French Revolution and prompted by the Napoleonic invasion to Spain

The building have the tower rebuilt and lost big chunks in both sides demolished to open two avenues.

Cathedral

The Cathedral was designed soon after the completion of the cabildo, and shortly before Buenos Aires became capital of the Viceroyalty.

In choosing the style of the building it sems as if they have anticipated the future composition of the city with inmigrants from many parts of the world. Buenos Aires chose for its cathedral not a colonial style, not any Spanish one, not gothic, but classical roman, being still Rome a clear symbol of universality, worldwide spirit.

The style with low religious flavor also resulted politically correct considering that the revolutionaries of 1810 were fond of French Revolution.

Casa Rosada (Pink House)

It is the seat of the Government since the second foundation of the city in 1580, the first city founded four decades before was destroyed by the indians. It is currently the seat of the President of Argentina, and was before independence the seat of the Viceroy.

During the first centuries it was a fort. Nothing remains of it. Currrent building was built joining two buildings. The color was chosen by President Sarmiento.

By the time Sarmiento started the tradition of the pink colour current building didnt exist and he was using remnant parts of former fort.

President Peron made famous the balcony of Casa Rosada since he used it several times for addressing the multitude.

Yes... the movie Evita was shot at the actual balcony... but sorry, the scene wasnt historically accurate, Evita addressed the people from another building situated at the crossing of Belgrano Ave. and July 9 Ave. when announcing she wouldnt be candidate for Vice-Presidency.
