Lord of the Rings trilogy marathon tickets sold out
By Joanne Leow, Channel NewsAsia

SINGAPORE : Just as the hype around Matrix Revolutions dies down, it is time for Lord of the Rings mania.

2,000 tickets for a 12-1/2 hour movie marathon of the entire trilogy were snapped up in less than a day.

The final episode of the Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King sees Frodo and Sam continue their quest to cast the One Ring into the fires of Mount Doom.

Men, hobbits, elves, dwarves and the rest of Middle-earth's creatures fight the ultimate battle against Sauron's army of orcs who laid siege to the capital of Gondor.

But for those of you have forgotten the storyline in the first two Lord of the Rings movies, how about a 12-1/2 hour movie marathon, which culminates with the final instalment which hits big screens around the world on December 17.

Benjamin said: "It's a matter of what I'm watching and not the length. Because if you really enjoy what you are watching, then time isn't a factor."

Farhan said: "I think it's a cool thing to do, because it's a wholeday thing and you just get one after another so that it won't stick in your mind basically."

Tickets for the trilogy marathon went on sale at midnight on Thursday, but surprisingly there were no snaking queues before the box-office at Orchard Cineleisure opens.

Where were all the fans? They were online.

Han Yi said: "Last night I tried to check the website of the cinemas but it's quite slow and don't know why just can't get tickets."

Daniel said: "Stayed up late last night to get tickets and it was a bit hard because online it was ridiculously crowded so I think we got shut out of the website quite early. And by the time I got on, there weren't any tickets left, so I had to come down here this morning."

Online traffic was slow because hundreds of people were logging onto cinema websites.

But all the marathon tickets at Golden Village, Shaw and Eng Wah cinemas were sold out by Friday morning.

Cathay still had tickets in the afternoon because it reserved half for box office sales.

But these were soon snapped up as well.....even the very front row seats. - CNA
