FAN REVIEW (BY NATHAN PAPSON):
SOMETHING FOR KATE, SUPPORTING POWDERFINGER. 25/10/01, FESTIVAL HALL,
MELBOURNE
As i entered festival hall at 7.50, 10mins before Something For Kate's scheduled starting time, the hall was filled to about half capacity. Something For Kate came on stage promptly at 8pm and started with a very fine version of 20 years. The setlist was very tight, with very little space between songs and minimal talking by paul. The upside to this is that Something For Kate got to play to their maximum time limit. It was a mixture of echolalia songs and some beautiful sharks singles, like 'the astronaut'. They played 'like bankrobbers', with Pip on violin, and it sounded mighty fine. A funny moment was when paul started to sing 'give me a home, where the buffalo roam, and the deer and the antelope play, where seldom is heard... ' and then immeadiately going into stunt show. It added a very nice touch to their set. The two final songs they played were 'the one i love' and monsters. The crowd really got into the mood towards the end of the set, letting out a huge roar as paul introduced monsters as their last song. The band left stage to a huge cheer, leaving them all hyped up for Powderfinger. Well done SFK :)
