Heero and Duo Fic

SHOO BEE-DOO

Shoo bee-doo bee doo ooh la la

Heero sat at the desk, in the garage, staring up at the massive machine that was known as DeathScythe. Duo had been tinkering in the cockpit all day. No music playing, no cheerful hums, not even a happy grin or two words to anybody. So, Heero took it upon himself to find out why.

Their base on L2 was a good solid part of the reason Duo was so quiet and not himself. They had been there for two weeks and it annoyed Heero that after dinner everynight, Duo would casually disappear for hours at a time and then return in a sombre mood. Where could Duo go and come back so depressed? Granted L2 wasn't his original home but, why was he so down?

When I look in your eyes
Baby here's what I see
I see so much confusion
And it's killing me

Duo sighed and wiped his brow, "Done. Well buddy, you're finally upgraded to infra-red. Let's see those bastards sneak up on us again!" Duo stood up and looked very proud of himself. Turning around, his eyes focused on a tiny figure sitting behind the desk, waiting for him. He rolled his eyes and then lowered himself down to the ground, waiting for the personal attack to start.

Heero stood up and calmly walked over to meet Duo in the middle of the huge room. He was cut off gruffly by Duo's unwillingness to notice him. But that didn't stop him from asking the questions he needed an answer to.

"Save it, Heero. I don't wanna talk about it. Not to you, or anybody."

"Duo you can't avoid this forever. Somethig is bothering you, and if you don't get it off your chest now, you'll either implode or do something rash and uncalled for. Trowa offered you an ear last night and you nearly knocked him through a wall. Now, I'm asking you. I'll pin you down and sit atop you if need be." Heero fell silent as Duo continued to walk by and the stopped at 10 paces past.

"Get off my back, Heero. I told you, there is nothing to talk about. Stay away from me, if you want to continue living,- or whatever it is that you do." Duo hissed and then continued walking.

I can't take it anymore, baby
Why don't you dry your eyes
Try and realize
Love can open any door and maybe
If you trust in me
I can make you see

Upstairs, Duo lay on his bed and stared up at the ceiling. It was now 6PM and dinner was waiting to be eaten. Duo wasn't hungry. In fact, he hadn't been hungry for days now. Closing his eyes, his mind began replaying vicious memories of what happened years ago. Tears welled up in his eyes as he closed his pillow about his head. Rolling on his side to face the wall, silent gasps escaped him. Letting himself cry, he was oblivious to the person standing in the doorway.

Heero watched helplessly as Duo cried. He wanted so much to run to him and hold him close. Wishing he could help and feeling so cast out, he turned and walked away before Duo acknowledged him. Fists clenching, anger building up inside him, feeling very left out of his friend's life. Could there be a way to show Duo he could be trusted and was willing to help at any cost? And most importantly, survive?!

"What's wrong Heero? Where's Duo? Not eating again... or is something bothering him still?" The perky blond, Quatre, asked as they both took their seats at the dinner table.

"He's not feeling his best, tonight." Heero stated and completed his meal in silence.

Shoo bee doo bee doo ooh la la come to me baby
Shoo bee doo bee doo ooh la la don't say maybe
Shoo bee doo bee doo ooh la la come to me baby
Shoo bee doo bee doo ooh la la

While the others ate dinner, Duo pulled on his black leather jacket and slid out the front door. Rolling his motorcycle away from the house, so that the others wouldn't hear the engine, he headed back to the place he had gone to since they arrived on the tiny colony.

Coming to a stop outside an abandoned building, he stared up at its remains and sighed heavily. Parking his motorcycle around the side of the decrepid building, he pried a loose board off of one of the boarded up windows and slithered inside. He took a flashlight out of his jacket and shined it about the room. Taking two steps and then stopping again, he turned to find another person standing there, looking at him.

Heero.

"I told you, LEAVE ME ALONE!" He hissed.

"No. You are my friend and ally. Why won't you let me help you? Why is this building so important to you? You haven't eaten in days, you cry when you think no one hears you, and you're trying your best at blocking us out from your life. Duo, please.. let me help you." Heero took a cautious step forward. He knew that the braided one had a bad temper, as bad as his was sometimes. But, he was willing to sacrifice everything in order to let Duo be his cheerful self again.

I can see you've been hurt before
But don't compare them to me
Cause I can give so much more
You know you're all I see

Duo froze for a minute then told Heero to follow him. They crawled out the window and Duo gave Heero a lift to one of L2's fine cemeteries. Heero followed closely as he was led to two gravestones, side by side.

"This is Father Maxwell, and that one is Sister Helen. That building was their church. They raised me and cared for me, and one day... they were gone. I came back, the building was destroyed and Father Maxwell was dead. Sister was alive long enough for me to find her. Those bastards in uniforms destroyed the Church and then killed them because of me." Duo stared blankly at Father Maxwell's grave. He let the flashlight illuminate the headstone.

I can make it on my own, baby
But I'd rather share all the love that's there
I don't want to be alone and maybe
You will see the light
Baby, spend the night

Heero stared at Duo for a long time. Wanting so much to take the pain away. Sliding his hands into his jacket pockets, he started to say something but, let the words die instantly on his tongue. The last thing he wanted was to have Duo furious at him.

"Anyway, after that day, Shinigami was born. I devoted my life to making sure who's responsible pays for their mistakes. I never got to thank them, you know? I mean, instead of turning me in to the police, they took me in and gave me a life and a home. And as payment, they are dead. There's nothing anyone can do for me. That's why I never told anyone." Duo suddenly turned to Heero. "And this goes no further, clear?"

Heero nodded.

"Feels good to get that off my chest. And you know, I think I'm getting kinda hungry. WOW! Where did that come from? So, wanna go get something to eat? I don't really want to go home right now, but I know this great all night cafe that has excellant hamburgers." Duo fitted himself with a grin and placed an arm around Heero's shoulder as they walked back to the motorcycle.

Stopping a moment, before closing the gate, Duo looked back at the two graves, "Thanks, and good-bye." Closing the gate, and turning to face Heero, his smile returned and he promptly drove to the cafe for a good meal and a long talk with his friend.

Shoo bee doo bee doo
Shoo bee doo bee doo baby
Shoo bee doo bee doo
Shoo bee doo bee doo baby

Come to me baby
Pretty darling, don't say maybe

What did you think? I go the idea from listening to Madonna's "Like A Virgin" CD. Sorry to say there was no sex but, there is always a sequel!
