The Sims Of The New World Epilogue

     "Cain?"

A strange voice  was coming from the forest. A female voice.

     "Cain? Where are you? CAIN!"

The Fae and the NeoFae stood still, the celebration forgotten, listening.

     "I think...I saw...him go that...way!" It was a deep male voice. He sounded worried, his breath coming in short 
spurts.

And, as suddenly  as the strange creature had appeared from the thickets, so now did a female. She was tall, with 
golden skin and matted dark hair, just as the creature.  Her clothing was also worn and dirty, but she was 
definitely not a wild thing of the forest. In fact, despite the dirt, the matted hair and all, she was really very 
beautiful. Strangely, she had the same look deep  in her eyes as Jazz did. The look of one who knows.

Jalen was so shocked at seeing her that he had loosen his grip just enough for the thing he held to roughly pull 
itself loose and run into the open arms of the female.

    "Oh, Cain, THERE you are," she said as she lovingly cradled 
the young boy in her arms. "How many times have we told you 
not to run ahead like that? You could have fallen in a hole, or 
worse! There are dangerous wild animals in the forest!" she 
scolded.

She held him in her arms, rocking him gently back and forth, 
kissing his dirty forehead.  The boy made little happy sounds 
into his mother's chest as he held on to her.

     "You found him?" came the male's voice as he rushed out 
of the forest into the NeoFae's camp.

But, unlike his wife, he immediately saw the Children and the 
Foel, standing, staring at the three of them.

     "Yes," the female  was answering, "and he's all right. This time." 
She began to rub her hands up and down his thin little arms to
warm him. "I don't know what we would have done if…"

But her husband wasn't listening.      He was pulling on her 
shoulder as he slowly took two steps backwards.

It was then that the female looked up to see the faces peering back at her.  She saw the pointed ears and eyes 
that gleamed with a surreal brightness.   The clothes with shimmering colors, reflecting light, even though the 
sun was behind the mountain and night was near.  The others with hair covering their entire bodies, long sharp 
nails, horns and tails as the animals of Gaia whom they knew in the garden, yet these stood upright on two legs.

And as the fire in the glass lanterns automatically flared in preparation of the coming darkness, and the fire flies 
lined the trees to glowed to help light the entire area where the celebration had been taking place, the female 
became frightened. She stood up, holding her son tightly against her.

     "Uh, we, uh…" she stammered, but the male whispered "hush" as he took another two backwards steps slowly 
towards the forest, pulling gently on her arm to  follow.

The Children and the Foel continued  to stand quietly, staring, not moving or saying anything.

The male understood that it was safe to leave, and just above a whisper, he said, "let's go," and the three intruders 
slowly turned to retreat into the forest.

     "We're sorry," the female was finally able to utter, and even though her back was turned, her  words were still 
heard by everyone.

    "Wait!"

It was Jaida. She pushed her way forward calling 
out to the strangers. "Don't go!"

And, even though she knew her husband would not 
like it, the female stopped and slowly turned around 
to face a curious person with pointy ears who now 
was only a few feet away.

     "I am Jaida. You look like you could use a friend."

Jalen started to protest, but Greer firmly put his hand 
on his shoulder, keeping him back.

Greer smiled friendly at the female.

She smiled back.

Then, there was more shouting from the forest as three 
more dirty, shivering children scurried out, stumbling 
over their own feet, each in turn plopping on top of the 
one  before.

     "Father, mother, where are you? I'm so cold!"

     "I'm so frightened!"

     "I'm so hungry!"

Finally, the awkward silence was broken as sounds of laughter spread across the camp.  The mixture of the lilt 
voices of the NeoFae, the giggle of Greenley and Olyve, the low undulating mooing of the bovine, the high 
chuckle of the apes, and the other sounds from the Foel frightened the children, and they clung instinctively to 
their parents, shivering uncontrollably.  But, Adam and Eve heard the sincerity in the sounds and it comforted them.

     "Come," Jaida said as she put her arm around Eve, taking Cain's hand as she gently coached them to go with 
her. "We have plenty of food and we can give you shelter from the cold. First, I'll  have my son boil some water so 
that you all can take a nice hot bath."

Greer, still laughing, put his hand out to Adam.

    "I am Greer. Don't be afraid. We are your friends, really."

Adam accepted his hand, and Greer gave it a firm squeeze as he pumped it once downward. Then he slapped 
Adam heartily across the back.

     "Come and join the festival of our first harvest!" He said this so cordially, that two of the children allowed 
themselves to be calmly removed from their father's side, taking Emeralda and Jade, who's  smiles were so inviting, 
by the hand to be lead off to the tubs.

     "Poor little dears," Jade was saying. "We've got to get you warm right away. I'm surprised you haven't died from 
the cold like our plants and crops have."

     "Music, we need music! This is definitely a day for celebration!"  Greer shouted as he ran to find his stringed 
instrument.

Music once again floated through the air, and more laugher was heard  as everyone slowly returned to the 
festivities. And as the fire flared in the last lantern, his second child tugged at Adam's tattered loincloth as they
both stood looking surprisingly after Greer.
