Chapter Six Little Jazz Isn't So Dumb continues... (part 2)
Jazz didn't want to play with Greenley. He pretended he would hide and she could try to find him, then he quickly lost her in the thickets. Once again he began to explore beyond their cave hoping to find the Fae's camp. And, soon he discovered what he had hoped for. During those few short seconds that he had Crystal's full attention earlier; a break in the invisible filed, just big enough for him to pass through, was created. He was very happy those first few days, alone with his thoughts, looking for any familiar rock formation, tree, or flower groupings that he had memorized as he search for the path that they had taken that first night. The night he and his family last saw their spiritual mother and became the wards of the Fae. And everyday he discovered something else wonderful about Gaia and the little space of her that they all occupied.

And, as they struggled to grow new crops, the NeoFae were force to continue to eat the measly rations of apples and berries that the Fae brought to them three times a day. And, since Jazz was wondering more and more away from their own camp, he was seeing more and more of the Fae's camp: their orchards and fields of a variety of plants, nuts and fruits. However, Jazz knew he could not mention this to his family. His parents will surely disapprove of his meddling, claiming that they needed to find their own way on Gaia, and that they were to be subordinate to their cousins. This order had come directly from great mother, JyM, their Goddess, who they did not question. Jazz already knew all of this; therefore, he kept quiet. Jazz also knew the time would come one day for them to rise above this lowly existence that they now had. He had to wait quietly.

In the meantime, Crystal had shown the adults how to break the sod to begin the long process of preparing the soil for the seeds of dried fruit and vegetables that she had brought that first morning. It took several days for them to clear a large area because Crystal gave them no tools. Instead, they had to use their hands; crude jagged rocks and sticks to work the ground. Usually it was Aurora or Goldie who came to oversee their progress if Crystal was too busy with another of her projects to come herself. But, no matter who came, you could be assured that every word the Fae spoke came straight from Crystal. Finally, the fruit of the NeoFae's labor was rewarded when they began to see the tiny heads of shoots sprouting to the surface, and listening to the instructions that were given to them, the NeoFae watched their garden grow.

One day, Jazz finally spotted the very clearing where he last saw JyM. As he cleared the thickets, he was in the mist of the Fae camp. The Fae who were near by ignored him, too busy with their chores to pay any attention to a small insignificant child. Crystal was nowhere to be seen. In fact, Jazz became aware that none of the Blue Fae were in the camp

He boldly approached a very fair Orange Fae who was stooping low to the ground. Another, who carried a dark blue bag with a very strange glow, called out to her a warning to be careful. "Hello. I am called Jazz." He paused, looking around, then asked her more directly, "what are you doing?" Without thinking, she responded, "I'm gathering like Crystal told me to do." "Gathering?" Jazz looked around again and noticed that the one with the bag was now speaking to another Fae who was brushing her hands into the bag. He noticed a slight glow, almost a spark, and heard the swish, swish as she continued to move her hands back and forth against each other. "Gathering what? Can I help?"
"The dust, of course!" Then she looked up and she was face to face with Jazz looking into his eyes and she knew she must not lie to him. "I don't think you can help. This is a delicate procedure. We have to be sure we're getting the pure dust and that nothing else is mixed in, or it won't be any good to us." Jazz stopped to think about what she said. Then he looked up, into the trees and into the sky, remembering the goddess' assent to The Supreme Being. "And this is the best place to gather?" he asked. "Oh, yes, yes it is. My blue sisters were working here at first but Crystal sent them to do something else. I feel privilege to be chosen to gather the dust."
Jazz looked at her closely. She was not all orange after all. Here and there, just a little, barely noticeable, she had spots of blue. "Okay," he tried to sound like Greenley. "This seems like silly Fae work to me, anyways. I'll leave you alone and I'll go play." "Bye, Jazz. Take care of yourself", his orange cousin, who was Becoming, called after him. "I will", he called back, and continued his exploration. |

At home, the joy of the new crops had turned to anguish. Gaia was not cooperating and all of their new crops were dying. Every NeoFae, including the children, worked hard into the night trying to save their crop to no avail. Even the berry and apple trees that started to grow, soon withered turned black, and died. "Oh, that's too bad," Crystal, said while Goldie and Aurora snickered under their breath. "Well, that's the way it goes with growing plants. Sometimes there's too much sun, not enough sun, or too much water, or...well, my dear cousins, you understand. But, you must not give up. You just have to start again. I just hope we don't run out of seeds." Of course, Goldie and Aurora were snickering because they knew that Crystal had sabotage their success from the very beginning. The area Crystal had selected was too rocky and filled with an ore that was killing the plants. You see, she couldn't use her magic directly on Gaia, but she could use her knowledge about Gaia to use against the NeoFae. She even told them that the fresh water that came from the stream was good to drink, but not very good for the vegetables and fruit, and to not water very often. Aurora and Goldie got such a kick watching Crystal make the NeoFae's life less than pleasant.
