Chapter Two, part 2
The Fae and The Birth of The Foel

“After the announcement, a murmur of confusion spread through the gathered Fae.  ‘Sisters, sisters, please don’t worry,’ Crystal beamed.  ‘No, quite the contrary.   There is no need to worry about anything ever again. You may go about your daily lives without a care and want for nothing. Beryl, Nite, Cyana and I will not desert you; instead we will continue to communicate with our Goddess on your behalf.  We, with her guidance, will take care of you.  Now, go!  Dance and sing songs of glory for a new era of our lives on Gaia has just begun!’

Then, unexpectedly, Crystal flew straight in the air.  She hovered over the Fae and beckoned to Beryl, Nite and Cyana to join her.  Without hesitation, Beryl and Nite were at her side looking down at their sisters who were still trying to comprehend what had just transpired.  Cyana, herself unsure, wondered if she should follow Crystal or stay to calm the others.

‘Cyana, we must go to plan our future.  Come quickly.’

‘Don’t worry, sisters,’ Cyana scanned the crowd.  ‘Everything will be alright.  You’ll see.’ And with those final words, she quickly rose to where the others waited and then, swoosh, the Blue Fae were gone.

JyM, an ever present silent witness to these events, wasn’t quite sure how to react to Crystal’s statement that she and the other Blue Fae were superior to those whose colors had not altered from orange.  JyM loved all of her children, and the implication that she had purposefully transformed four Fae to be better than the others was simply not true.  She simply had not foreseen what had happened.    In JyM’s mind, after all, her children were an experiment; a game, if you will, for the goddess’s enjoyment.  A game that JyM could end at anytime, if she chose.  Just the same, she allowed her experiment to continue.  JyM was curious to see what Crystal would do next.

In the meantime, the Orange Fae had slowly dispersed.  No one felt like rejoicing, each deciding instead to return to her daily chore.  A few Fae began to gather flowers for their hair. Others tended to Gaia the way they had been taught by JyM.  Still others gathered fruits, vegetables and herbs to prepare the late meal.

When the preparers had returned to the enclosure where the Fae gathered for meals, without warning, Beryl had appeared.  Behind her were a group of unusual objects. She smiled warmly at her sisters.

‘We call these counters. This is a table, and these are chairs,’ she announced. ‘And, look!  This is a container to keep our food cold so that it will stay fresh.  Isn’t this wonderful, sisters Crystal can see into the future!  She has revealed that one-day man will come and they will create these objects by the toil of their hand and the sweat of their brow.  But, we, the Children of the Goddess JyM, are blessed.  The others and I can provide these very same objects for all of us Fae, quickly and simply with our magic! ‘

More and more objects appeared.  ‘Running water like a small fall will come from this faucet and run down this hole for us,’  Nite announced.  ‘We can keep and reuse these eating utensils by cleaning them.’

‘Do you see, sisters?’ Beryl continued, ‘come feel how soft this cushioned nest is.  Much more comfortable than sleeping on the ground or in the trees, don’t you think?’

The Orange Fae was so happy with the new ‘gifts’ that they rose early the next day to prepare for a great celebration.  They flew far and wide to find the most unusual plants and stones to decorate their home.  They gathered every known fruit and herbs, honey and nectar, nuts and green leafy vegetables for the feast.  They commanded the fire flies to light the trees; and as night fell, they sang and danced for hours praising their Goddess, and thanking her for the gift of magic that she had given to Crystal, Beryl, Nite and Cyana.

When the celebration reached it’s peak, Crystal suddenly called for silence.  ‘Sisters, we are no longer the only free thinking beings on Gaia,’ she began.  ‘The Goddess JyM made us in her own image and we have lived happily on Gaia these years.  But, we know that there are many, many creatures that share our Gaia with us.  They are the creatures that act on instinct, going from day to day ignorant, living without the blessed joys of JyM. Yet, we have longed to communicate with them as equals.  Although they are not our equals, and can never be, they can be our companions. So, sisters, I give to you a present. Meet our new friends.’

From the tickets came two tigresses and a lioness.  Except, these three creatures of Gaia’s jungles were not on four paws as they should have been.  They stood upright on two legs and were dressed liked the Fae with gemstones around their necks.  ‘I am Tiena.  I speak for Sheena and Lionae.  We thank Crystal, our mother, for giving us life.’

But, the celebration was over.  A sudden shudder rose from deep within Gaia as a cold northern wind rushed in and all lights went out.  Clouds circled, covering the stars, and a blanket of darkness surrounded the Fae.  Then Gaia shook violently, and the Fae stumbled to keep their balance as they gathered together.  They clung to each other, whimpering in fear and calling for JyM.  But, their calls were being blocked, for Crystal had angered the Supreme Being.
