Christmas Courage
'Twas the day before Christmas and all through the land,
The preparations had gotten plumb out of hand.
A hailstorm blew through and took down the line
That brought the power for lights on the pine.

Ma lit the lantern, while Pa got a sweater,
The elves crawled in bed and pulled up the cover.
That wasn't the worst.  The flu was in town.
The reindeers had fever that wouldn't go down.
Angie cried out, "Hey, Pooh.  Where are you?"
She thought, "Napping again?  What do I do?"
Then Pooh sauntered out, of where, no one knew,
"Chill out, baby girl," he said. "All is cool."
"The reindeers are sick and can't pull the sleigh.
And everyone else is South for the winter.
It's cold out there, but Santa needs us.
You'll be chilled out, if you're not a big wuss."
"Who you callin' a wuss?  I'm in, for sure.
A trip 'round the neighborhood, a breath of fresh air."
Angie smiled, then asked, "You know where Sam's been?"
"No," said Pooh.  "He's never heard or seen."
"Look in the closet, and out on the porch.
It's awful dark.  We may need a torch."
Muttered Pooh, "He disappears quick as a wink.
Oh, don't forget to look under the sink."

"Where can he be?  Santa needs him tonight.
Maybe under the bed?  Bring over the light.
There you are.  Hey! Come out and help us.
There's so much to do.  Now, don't make a fuss."
"But it's cold and it's dark and I can't find my way.
We'll all get lost, and there'll be heck to pay."
Sammie began to tremble.  A tear fell down
And made a wet spot on the ground.
"Don't be afraid," said Angie.  "You're not alone.
And it feels so great when we get back home."
"We'll be there," said Pooh, "and Santa and Ma.
No one'll ever believe what they looked up and saw."
Sammie crawled out to stand with his pals,
And raised his voice to join their howls.
"Together, we'll do what needs to be done
And while we're doing it, we'll have great fun!"
Merry Christmas to all, and a Happy New Year!
