Just who the heck am I, anyway?
Look! It's a fairly old picture of me! Are you scared off yet? More recent ones can be found here.
Here are some of the basics. My name is Rachel Rosenthal, and I am not affiliated with the performance artist of the same name. I was born on October 24, 1973 in Joliet, Illinois (no, not in the prison) and have spent most of my life in lovely Bolingbrook, Illinois. I attended Indiana University from 1991-1995 and majored in journalism.  I am a proud Brother of Alpha Phi Omega, Mu Chapter (I was the original webmaster for our chapter...yes, that page has come a long way since then!). I was also involved in IU College Democrats, Society of Professional Journalists, and briefly wrote for the Indiana Daily Student, among other things.

After leaving IU in 1995, I returned to Bolingbrook. I worked at a few different places before finding a Real Job as a Classified Advertising Recruitment Specialist for
Copley Chicago Newspapers. I worked there from July 1996-December 2000.

Sometime in the middle of 2000, I made a decision to finish what I started. I quit my job at the end of the year and returned to Indiana University to finish my journalism degree. (What can I say, I'm on the ten-year plan. : )) I really enjoyed being back there, although it was weird in a few different ways. For one, the town's changed a lot since the first time around. All sorts of places I used to go are gone, and a lot of new places have opened in their place. (White Rabbit, Mars, Von Lee Theater, New York Bagel & Deli, Leslie's Italian Villa, Nathan Hale's, Garcia's, Bookcellar...you are all missed.) For another, I was older than most people in class...anywhere from 6-10 years. That's strange to think about, especially since I went from being one of the youngest in my class to one of the oldest. I finally finished up with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism in December, 2001. I am currently temping and trying to figure out what I'm going to do, professionally, with the rest of my life.

So what else occupies my time? I am a member (and past Webmaster) of the
Bolingbrook Jaycees, part of the Great Northeast Region of the Illinois Jaycees!. In Indiana, I was involved with the late, lamented Spencer, IN Jaycees, so my life was not totally Jaycee-less. I am also a member of American Association of University Women, Bolingbrook Branch, and am serving as Public Policy Chair this year.

I am also a major sports fanatic. My favorite sports are basketball (Indiana has some sort of law where you are not allowed to leave the state until you become a basketball fanatic. : )) and football, but I also like baseball and hockey. The teams I root for, in no particular order, are the Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks, Cubs, and of course the Hoosiers. I spend way too much time playing fantasy football during the season -- I am the reigning champion of the Quartz Football League!

When I have spare time, I like to read, watch TV, go dancing, travel, and spend time with
Barney, my newly adopted Welsh Terrier, among other things.

Those are the basics. Want to know more? Send me
mail with any questions you may have.
Now that you've gotten the basic information, go back home and continue the journey from there.
