OVERHAND SERVE (a.k.a. "The Tennis Serve")

The serve can be made from a standing-still position or by stepping into the serve to provide more power.   If you do step into the serve, make sure your foot is not outside the service area at the moment of contact.

READY POSITION:
1)  Shoulders should be square to the net or target area.
2)  Feet should be shoulder-width apart.
3)  Step forward with the foot opposite the hitting hand.
4) The toss should be within 3-4 ft above your head.

CONTACT:
1)  The ball is hit with an open hand and with the arm completely straight
2)  The serving action should be one continous motion
3)  Swing through the ball.
4)  Keep the eyes on the ball.

FOLLOW-THROUGH:
1)  Follow-through with the serving hand in the direction of the ball.
2)  Get in the game as quick as you can.  Don't remain there admiring your serve.
