LEAD UP GAMES

1) BATTLE BALL: Unlimited players required for this game.  Divide the players into 2 equal teams.  The object of the game is to throw the balls over the net as quickly as possible so that when time is up, the opposing team will have more balls in their area.  A game can consist of four, 3 minute quarters.  Teams exchange courts at half time. The team with the lowest point totals wins.  One ball = 1point.

2)
NEWCOMB:  The object of the game is to throw the volleyball over the net so that it strikes the floor on the opponent's end.  The game can be played with or without passing to a teammate.  The game begins with one side throwing the ball into the opponent's end.  Same scoring as in regular volleyball.  You can only get a point if your team is "throwing".

3)
LEADER BALL OR LINE BALL: Approx. 7-10 players per team.  One volleyball per team.  Each team is lined up in a straight line with their leader in front of them facing the first player in line.  The leader stands approx. 10 feet away.  The leader volleys the ball to the first player in line.  Once volleyed, that player runs back to the end of the line.  The leader then volleys the ball to the next player in line.  This pattern is continued until the first player is at the front again.  When a round is completed a new player takes over as leader.
VARIATIONS:  Use a bump pass, a Serve, or increase the distance.

4)
3 PASS VOLLEYBALL: The rules of the game are essentially the same as in regular volleyball.  The only exception is that 3 players MUST touch the ball before it's hit over the net.  If the ball is hit less than 3 times, the point or serve goes to the other team.  The number of passes can be determined by the server before he/she hit their serve.

5)
BEACHBALL VOLLEYBALL: The object of the game is the same as in regular volleyball.  The only difference is that there is NO spiking, and that a beach ball is used rather than a volleyball.

6)
KEEP UP: Each team gathers in a circle formation.  At a given signal, the team leader tosses the ball in the air.  The other members of the team attempt to keep the ball in the air and not touch the ground.
VARIATIONS:  Teams may only volley the ball.  Teams may only bump the ball.  Or teams may do both.

7)
3 on 3 KINGS COURT VOLLEYBALL: Teams comprised of 3 players attempt to get 3 points to stay on the court.  When a team loses, they are replaced with another team.  The winning team remains on the court.
VARIATION:  Make it a 4 on 4 game. Have each player on your team touch the ball before it goes over the net.

8)
9 PLAYER VOLLEYBALL: The game and it's rules are essentially the same as in 6 player volleyball.  However, the rotation is different.  Players are in 3 rows of three players.  The player at the front left corner is considered the on-deck server.  Rotation takes place in the form of the letter "S".

9)
ONE BOUNCE VOLLEYBALL: The game is essentially the same as regular volleyball with one exception:  The ball may bounce ONCE.

10)
COUNTDOWN VOLLEYBALL: Teams play regular volleyball rules.  To start each game teams are given 15 points.  A point is taken away for each error, miss, or ball  hit out of bounds.  When teams are eliminated,  a new team replaces them, starting with 15 points.  The winning team starts the next game with the same number of points they ended their last game.  In other words, they do not start over with 15 points. VARIATIONS:  Teams may start games with fewer points (i.e. 5 pts).

11)
UNLIMITED VOLLEYBALL: The rules are essentially the same, but with an unlimited number of hits allowed for each team.

12)
CATCH UP BALL: Teams of 6 players are placed on each side.  Each team begins with one ball.  The object of the game is force the other team to have 2 balls in possession (in hand) at the same time.  One point is scored each time this happens  Players must get rid of the ball rapidly.  10 points make up a game.

13)
HOOP VOLLEYBALL: Players are placed on the court standing inside hoops.  The server serves the ball over the net.  The players in the hoops go after the ball without steping outside their hoops.

14)
BALLOON VOLLEYBALL: 3-5 balloons are used to start the game.  The object of the game is to keep the balloons up and in play.  If any balloon lands on the floor, the opposing team receives a point.  When a balloon lands on the ground, pick it up and put it back in play.

15)
BLIND VOLLEYBALL: This is a regulation volleyball game.  The only exception is that teams cannot see eachother.  Use old draperies or a blanket hung on with clothespins.

16)
FOUR-COURT VOLLEYBALL:  This game is a lot of fun if you have a large gym area.  A 36 ft net, and two 20 ft nets are needed for the set up.
