================================== You request a thopter over your communicator. A Ginaz Ornithopter slowly spirals down out of the sky and lands softly. Ginaz Ornithopter The light from the 'thopter console casts a green shade over the front compartment. Two swivel chairs, one occupied by the pilot, are seperated from the passenger area by a divider. Another pair of swivel chairs, elegantly appointed, face the rear of the thopter. A cushioned, leather backed bench curves along one side and the rear wall to the large passenger door. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- _____________________Dune III Player Data Sheet: Margot______________________ Fullname: Margot Elisabeth Atreides Faction: Atreides Title: Duchess Atreides Position: Siridar-Duchess Atreides Address: Your Grace Age: 37 Background: A recent arrival on Kaitain she is claimed to be the illegitimate daughter of the late duke Mendon Atreides. He has a younger sister (Ariel) upon whome he dotes shamelessly. From his birth he was groomed to be the next Siridar of Heleneaus. When Darwin was 16 he was enrolled in an off-planet academy, a combination finishing school and military academy for the children of great and lesser houses. The decision was made that on his graduation he would not return to the familiar confines of the House compound, but would instead apprentice with his half-sister Margot in the house Atreides Mission on Kaitain. During his time there he is expected to learn the workings of a House, the management as well as the leadership and the cement his family's ties to the rising Atreides. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The pilot nods. Clearance is required for that destination. Send a request with 'msg <message>'. The thopter's wings start beating, propelling it upward into the sky. The pilot nods, "Message sent." The driver turns to the passenger area, "Clearance has been granted." The ornithopter slowly spirals down making a soft landing. Ornithopter Pad -- Atreides Estate (Kaitain)(#446RntFJ) Style and function mesh harmoniously in the design of this ornithopter pad, a wide expanse of space penned in by a grove of olive trees. The landing pad is near-black, hard and solid under the weight of the 'thopters that land upon it. It is an empty, very open square that shows the scars of many jet-assisted takeoffs, with room enough to land several large 'thopters easily. In one corner is a guard station for the security personnel who check out new arrivals upon landing, a sturdy little building just large enough to hold a squad comfortably. Beyond the olive trees is a high plascrete wall, blocking the view of the rest of the grounds and deadening the noise of launching and landing 'thopters. The grove of trees between the pad and the wall also serves as a windbreak and provides a welcoming vista for the new arrival, with a single paved path leading out towards the estate's imposing front gate. Players: Darwin Objects: Ginaz Ornithopter Exits: Plasteel Gate <N> leads to Avliyarda Courtyard -- Atreides Estate (Kaitain) Darwin just looked at you. Darwin takes a moment to blink and smile at Sisay, a sweet smile playing unrealized across his face. He remembers his manners suddenly and sinks into a deep and courtly bow "My Lady Sisay, I am pleased to greet you behalf of the House Atreides. I am the Na-Earl Darwin Heleneaus." Lady Sisay descends from her orni. Two ceremonial Ginaz Guards flank her a little behind. She stands proud with a broad smile on her face, her two obsidian black eyes grimmering in the light. Sisay curtseys gracefully and says in a merry tone: "I am pleased to meet you, Sir." Darwin manages, barely, to maintain a respectable demeanor, but the beginnings of a broad and generous smile are obvious. "Little did I realize how fortunate I would when my sister asked me to greet you. She failed to convey just how lovely, and intriguing you are Lady, or I would have leapt to the task." An Atreides Ornithopter slowly spirals down making a soft landing. Scaitan climbs out of the Atreides Ornithopter. Scaitan has arrived. Scaitan waves Darwin nods gravely to the young officer and returns his attention to the offial reception he is conducting. Scaitan has left. The Lady's cheeks get a reddish tinge on them as she blushes deeply. She points her eyes downwards, her smile still on her cute face. With a discrete gesture she motions the guards to stand near the Ginaz Orni. Although unwilling, they comply to her order. She raises her gaze again and says: "You are very kind, Sir. I am... " she chuckles softly and continues: "I am very honored." Darwin nods soberly, a young man's version of the serious business mien of his elders. "May I escort you to the Ducchess? She awaits you in the aviary." He offers his arm discreetly. Sisay nods, the smile and blush still on her young face. She takes your arm and you cannot help but notice her whole body shivering slightly. "Thank you, Sir. Please, lead the way." Darwin manages a quick and cheerful wink of commiseration and consolation when he thinks he's turned away from the prying eyes of the waiting guards and servants. "Please come this way." and he heads off. Darwin follows the path to the imposing gate, where armed guards allow him to pass. Darwin has left. You are permitted through the gate by the armed security guards. A wide gravel lane crosses the vast Estate grounds, flanked by a colonnade of tall marble columns in the corinthian style. Avliyarda Courtyard -- Atreides Estate (Kaitain) At the front of the manor itself is an ornate marble fountain surrounded by a flagstone patio. Here and there about the courtyard, a vine-covered bower or a sheltered table provide a gathering place in the open air. The Atreides' country mansion is done in a classically Greek style and reflects the family character: elegant, grand but modest. The architecture is exquisite, with carved marble and elegant relief sculptures that portray the lives of the various Atreides from the time of the founding of the House of Atreus. The double-doors that lead into the building are of a brass color and are always flanked by guards in dark green uniform. Only the front wall of the estate is visible from here, the rest are distant shadows beyond the green lawns. The grounds even encompass an entire forest to the west. Several outbuildings may be seen on either side of the manse. At least one is identifiable as a barracks. Side Court -- Atreides Estate (Kaitain) This walled enclosure is wider than it is long, paved with cobblestones, and houses the barracks for the ducal guards as well as the servants' quarters and stables. An archway large enough for freight to be brought into the yard also offers a view of the gardens at the front of the estate and, just inside the gate, a sandy arena has been roped off for sparring matches between guards. The training area is surrouned by crude wooden benches to seat the spectators. The barracks itself takes up all of the west side of the court and part of the back wall. It is a stone building with a slanted green tile roof and many windows. Its covered porch is a favorite meeting place where soldiers of all ranks will visit or enjoy a quiet smoke. The smaller servants' quarters fills the furthest corner of the yard and is shaded by tall evergreen trees. A colorful vegetable garden to the east is overlooked by the multi-paned kitchen windows. Tall, slender marble columns stand in a large circle in center of the gold veined white marble floor, rising up to support the high domed ceiling. Outside this circle, along the curved wall of the room, a majestic fresco gives an artist's rendition of the view from Caladan Castle on Caladan. Large numbers of potted plants, small trees, and flowers add life to the room and, interspersed among the foliage, the occasional padded near- or far-bench offers a comfortable place to converse. Hidden among the many shrubs and trees, a plant-filled east- and west-alcove and a fountain niche offer residents and their guests an intimate retreat. In the center of the hall is a massive metal brazier, raised on claw and ball feet above the smooth stone floor. A large flame burns bonfire-like within the enormous cast-iron bowl. Smaller braziers illuminate the corners of the room and the free-standing statues there. At the far end of the dining hall, a raised dais bears the high table where the Atreides family and important guests sit. The table is surrounded by marble benches in the Greek style, padded with green velvet cushions. A pair of long tables on either side of the room are provided for other diners. This large chamber easily accomodates dozens of guests, as well as the servants who wait the tables, and the musicians who entertain here. Players: Darwin Margot Exits: Swinging Door <W> leads to Kitchen -- Atreides Estate (Kaitain) Archway <S> leads to West Wing -- Atreides Estate (Kaitain) Margot is on the far end of the aviary feeding some of the bigger parrots Aca-nuts. The sight is comical as paraquits and a myriad of other bright-coloured birds are sitting around and on top of Margot as she tries to give every bird some of the treats she is carrying. Darwin pauses just inside the arch and clears his throat in a practiced politeness, a proud smile on his patrician face. "My Lady, it is my pleasure to deliver your tea guest as you had requested." He indicates the yong woman on his arm. A young girl enters the room. A faint blush still gives her cheeks a reddish tinge while her face is blessed by a bright smile. Her obsidian black small eyes widen as she curiously glances around. She approaches and curtseys gracefully while saying: "Your Grace, I am ver honored to meet you." Margot turns ever so slightly, amking the birds speed away from her in an effect that looks like a multicoloured explosion, one cheeky parrot flying straight for Darwin and settling on his shoulder cawing for "peaaa-nut". Margot smiles beckoning over the duo to join her at the set table to her left. Margot just looked at you. Margot With a steady gaze, her crystal blue eyes look out upon the world from beneath expressively arched brows. Between the dark eyebrows, just above the bridge of her nose, a henna design of dots forms a kind of inverted triangle. Her golden complexion is almost as luminous as the embroidered gold silks she wears. A veil is held at the top of her head with a leaf-shaped clasp, all but concealing her full dark hair and emphasizing the perfect oval of her face. On her ears are a pair of matching leaf-patterned earrings. Her high cheekbones and full lips seem traced by a natural blush and, at the corners of her mouth are the first suggestion of laughter lines, revealing her spirit and sense of humor. An elaborate shawl at her shoulders covers the top of her white silk gown and accentuates the slender column of her throat. She is of average height, but slim, and her movements convey a sense of grace and inner peace. On her feet are a pair of sandals. Darwin This young man looks out at the world through eyes of palest brown beneath wide blunt brows which fade gradually to blend with his golden skin. Atop his head, a sensuous tangle of dark curls, blue-black and unruly are pushed back from his high forehead. His nose, a patrician blade above the wide, generous mouth. His build is light, but classically well-proportioned, with slight shoulders, a slim waist, and thin-fingered hands which are seemingly strangers to manual labor. He wears an exquisitely tailored tunic of delicately watered graphite-grey silk, immaculate above darker tweedy pants and delicately-tooled boots of black. He bears very little in the way of ornament. A knuckle-sized silver clip nestles on the shell of his left ear and a finger's ribbon of silk dyed the silver, ivory and palest blue of House Helenaeus is pinned at his throat. You take a seat at a long table. Darwin squints at the parrot which has landed on his shoulder with carefully hidden irritation. Obviously the Na-Earl and this bird have had run-ins in the past. The scarlet pest promptly begins to worry the bright silver clip on Darwin's ear. He resolves to ignore it and instead joins the ladies. Darwin takes a seat at your table. Margot also motions over Darwin to join them before turning to sisay and thoroughly inspecting her top to toe. "Hrmm..you're younger than your uncle described you." she finally says. "Would you like so tea my dear?" Darwin murmurs "nice to see a face closer to my own age around here sister dear" as he takes a delicate pastry wafer and a steaming china cup. Sisay seats herself at the table and quickly joins her hands on her lap. You could swear the poor girl is shivering. Yet her eyes are clear and her smile sincere. SHe says: "I'd love to taste a cup of your tea, Your Grace." She looks down and continues: "I am nineteen years old, Your Grace." Margot nods quietly as she pours herself. apparently she has won in some information about Sisay as she presents a cup of tea in her favourite blend, with additionals like milk, sugar, lemon added to fit Sisay's tastes. "So you are..." the duchess replies in a soft and neutral voice. "I wish to welcome you to my estates child. I hope you are not to nervous? I noticed the slight flush in your cheeks." Ever so slowly Margot's voice shifts towards a friendlier tone. Darwin studiously looks away at the mention of Sisay's flush. He's suddenly very interested in a silver carafe's inlaid handle. Sisay nods quickly as she receives the cup of tea and says: "Your Grace is very kind, thank you." as she pours herself a bit of milk and adds two spoons of sugar. She takes a spoon and starts mixing the ingredients in the tea. She takes a quick glance at Darwin and says: "I am startled by the beauty of the estates. Since I arrived on Kaitain, I never knew of such tranquility in the capital, except maybe our small gardens at the Embassy." She smiles broadly as she clutches her tea cup and sips quickly from it. Margot looks around her with a little sense of pride. "I'm quite pleased with the results of my refurbishing. I tell you when I arrived here I said to myself, this place needs a woman's touch...Actually we only completed the last additions a few weeks ago." Darwin turns a placid smile on Sisay. "And you've come on an excellent day. Somehow I've never seen this aviary so full of life." He settles back with his tea cup, it's steam wafting gently around his face. "What's the Ginaz embassy like?" A curious paraquit has settled on the backrest of Sisay's chair and eyes the pastries on the table curiously, braving the jump onto sisay's shoulder, making the friendly chirpingsound paraquits tend to make. Sisay lets her gaze wander around for a moment while nodding appreciatively "In deed, your Grace, breathtaking..." she turns to Darwin sipping from her tea, still tightly clutching the cup in her little hands. "It is small, Sir. But, luckily we have a nice garden with many plants from Marcinko and I stay for hours in there drinking tea or, sometimes practicing alone..." Startled for a moment, young Sisay shyly dares touching the paraquit. She gigles merrily as she studies the small bird. Darwin leans forward abruptly and his eyes drop to Sisay's fingers, apparently looking for something. "Practice you say? You're a musician? Baliset?" He seems interested beyond the usual courlty politeness of occassions like this one. Sisay turns her head quickly from the bird and watches Darwin in the eyes. She says as in a whisper: "No, Sir. Practicing with my blades. I have been trained at the academy by my uncle." Margot smiles silently as she watches one of the smaller birds return the curiousity Sisay is giving it. "Blades you say." she finally speaks in a soft manner, trying not to startle the bird. "Do you plan on becoming a fullfledged swordmaster then?" The Na-earl seems embarassed at his incorrect guess and he settles back into his seat. He absently offers the irritating parrot stationed on his shoulder a scrap of the flake pastry he is eating. The paraquit studies sisay intently and, seeing she lacks goodies, hops onto the table with a few quick wingstrokes, setling on the rim of a little tray filled with nuts. Sisay leaves her gaze for a moment to study Darwin but then quickly turns her gaze to the paraquit on the tray. She says in a dreamy tone: "No, your Grace." She smiles nicely and continues: "Or maybe, unofficialy... I love practicing. It keeps my body and spirit in shape." She leans on her seat, relaxing a bit while sipping again from her cup. "I call it, The Dance of the Blades when I practice with my uncle or alone." <<Sisay thinks: Okay, now they'll consider me a weird. Oh dear...>> Margot reaches out for one of the smaller nuts and olds it up to the paraquit. "I see. It is not uncommon for a lady to take these classes. Also since it will give you something in common with my halfbrother who you are bethrothed to." she says. "I take it you were told about him?" Darwin affects a slightly baffled smile at the mention of Mintor. He glances at Margot, opens his mouth to speak, pauses, and then decides that, in this case, ommision is the better part of valor and he remains silent. Sisay widens her eyes noticing the Na-Earl remaining silent. With a puzzled look on her face, clutching her cup tightly, she looks lost. A saddened look takes possesion of her young face but manages to say in an even tone: "Your Grace, I tend not to take into consideration rumors. My uncle has told me about my upcoming marriage, yes, but apart of that, I'm..." she pauses for a slight moment and continues: "I don't know much about the Na-Duke, I'm afraid..." Margot smiles softly, laying her hand on top of Sisay's. "Do not feel frightened my child. "Mintor is a polite and gentle man. He will make you a good husband. I'll see to it myself if need be." she speaks reassuringly. Darwin stares off absently into the middle distance in effect distancing himslef from the conversation of the ladies and allowing them some small measure of privacy. A shy smile crosses the Lady's face. Her gaze drops down to the table and nods, maybe just to reassure herself that everything would be okay. It seems clear the girl is frightened about her marriage and about her future, but who wouldn't be in her position? She closes her eyes, maybe remembering something and turns her gaze towards Margot. She says in a quick whisper: "May I dare asking a question, Your Grace?" Margot raises one of her delicate brows. "Yes my dear? what do you wish to ask me?" The parrot on the Na-Earl's should squawks irritably and pecks persistently at his ear clip and, incidentally, at the ear it's attached to. Darwin weathers the irritation with stolid resignation. Sisay closes her eyes again, a wild blush appearing on her cheeks as she whispers: "Does..." she sighs and continues: "Does the Na-Duke have a..." a soft chuckle interrups her shy whisper: "A concubine?" Margot can't help but chuckle before shaking her head. "No..he doesn't my child. He's not promised to any woman but you and there's no babies with his name on them crawling or awlking anywhere within the empire." Darwin stares at Margot. Sisay closes her eyes and sighs deeply. As she opens them again, a smile crosses her face, inner balance slowly calms the Lady down. She takes a deep sip from her tea and nods quickly: "I see." The smile brightens he young girls face as she coninues: "I don;t know what happened to me, but I just needed to ask this, Your Grace." She then quickly looks towards Darwin, not knowing why he sits so quiet. Margot closes her eyes and nods only once. "It is quite alright. The universe can be a big and dangerous place. Especially for a woman at this level..." she says quietly which makes you wonder if she refers to Sisay or to herself. "but come..let us not rest too long on thoughts of doom and gloom..." she flashes Sisay a cheery smile before swatting away a persistant giant parrot that was trying to get Margot's attention by unraveling her hairdo with one paw. Darwin sighs with good-natured vexation "Shouldn't we perhaps get a trainer in here before your menagerie draws a guests blood Margot? It's one thing to be sentimental, quite another to force an avian death-wish on others..." He scowls at the parrot on his shoulder. Margot waves a dismissive hand at Darwin. "Brutus seems to be aggresive but he's just a big sweetheart. He just gets a bit persistant at times, don't you Brutus?" The bird had by now settled on one of the low hanging branches near Margot squawking "Bruuuutus niiiiceboy" Sisay's smile widens until her whole teenager figure beams brightly. She says in a giggling tone: "I have read a lot about Caladan, Your Grace. I couldn't help but dig hard in the embassy's library untill I got my books. I got fascinated by the large seas and oceans... The blue planet of Caladan." She laughs as she hears the bird actually talking. Margot gris at sisay saying something surprising. "I read about it too. I must be honest that I still have to go there to officially be accepted as the new duchess, but affairs at court have been keeping me away there..." Darwin notes with an air of mock-wounded pride "One never hears the court pine over "Beige Heleneaus", does one? It's always "blue Caladan" this, and "blue Caladan" that." He seems to be talking at least somewhat to himself, or perhaps to his parrot. The parrot on Darwin's shoulder eyes him maliciously. "Peaaa-nut" Sisay gasps slightly, concealing a puzzled look behind her little hand. "Did I say something wrong, Sir?" she looks towards Margot then back to Darwin and finally towards the parrot, giving it an enquiring look. Darwin can't help but laugh, a broad, musical gesture of mirth which, for the first time, allows a glimpse beyond Darwin's more formal exterior to the joyful young man inside. He holds up his hands in surrender. "Not at all, not at all Lady." He pauses to consider "A spot of homesickness perhaps, and obviously an atrocious display of manners. Please forgive me." Margot only smiles softly as she listens to the banter between her little brother and the girl that will soon be her sister in law. She nods to herself. A fine addition to her house...Too bad she has to be Mintor's Sisay giggles merrily at Darwin, trying to catch the Brutus' attention with her little finger. "Why, I have nothing to forgive, Sir. I miss my forests too, you know. Aone who can;t make the difference between a quosumic and a pine." She laughs merrily as she tries to caress the bird's feathers. Darwin glances at Margot quickly, briefly puzzled by the prospect of being "apostrophe'd". Would he like it? Porobably not... He decides to nod soberly instead. Brutus inclines his head to Sisay sqauwking for attention. "Bruuutus prettyboy..." Sisay takes a small nut from the tray and holds it in front of Brutus. "Come to Sisay, little one, here you go." She raises her head towards her company, smiling. "I have only read about such birds. We don't have parrots nor any of the kind on Marcinko." she giggles as she watches Brutus' moves. You just receieved a vote for rper. Your vote for Margot for rper has been logged. At the mention of Marcinko the Na-Earl's face clouds over with a light mixture of concern and disquiet. "What is the news from Marcinko?" Margot leaves your table. Margot has disconnected. Sisay shrugs innocently and gets a grim look on her face. "Oh... I wish I'd knew. It seems everything is under control now, thanks to your aid." She lifts her gaze and gives you a cute smile. "I am not posted with all the recent news. In exchange, I got two guards from my uncle." She sighs deeply and continues: "I think he is afraid of an assasination attempt." Darwin observes dryly "Luckily I'm too inconsequential to have to worry about assassination..." His smile returns "But the action on Marcinko, regrettable as it may be, and your marriage to Mintor will surely cement the alliance between the Atreides and the Ginaz. Silver lining and all that." Sisay leans back in her seat and sips from her tea. She raises an eyebrow and enquires curiously: "Inconsequential, Sir? How come?" Darwin mangles a Latin phrase "Ipsum Ergot Facto, or something like that." He seems unconcerned about his egregious scholarship lapse. "Since no one is trying to assassinate me then I must not be worth assassinating. " He squints in mock suspicion at Sisay "and here I thought you were a scholar yourself." Sisay smiles sweetly and concludes: "Well, I always thought of myself not worthy of assasination, but my guards are very nice." She smiles. "I learned something from them" and makes a gesture resembling a sword parry. There is the slightest of pauses "Lovely." Darwin concludes "Tell me, does it bother you to have the guards follow you everywhere?" Sisay shakes her head quickly and says: "Not at all. They are very discrete and helpful at times." She gets a wicked smile on her face: "And, I have very much experience in sneaking out of my home back on Marcinko and getting lost in the woods for days and evading my father's patrols." She giggles merrily. Darwin raises a finger to make his point "Now, the part of me which is 21 years old is envious, and the part of me which is Mintor's brother, half-brother" he considers it "well, actually, no blood relation at all, but anyway, that part of me worries for poor Mintor." He chuckles quietly. Sisay laughs merrily and says: "Thank you, Milord." She pauses for a second and says, looking in your eyes: "Some have said about my rebellious behavior that I am hard to tame." She looks downwards and continues in a conspiring tone: "I intend to keep this status..." The young nobleman seems at a loss for words for a moment but eventually he meets her gaze and matches her imtimate tone "Perhaps..." He licks his lips and seems to come to a conclusion. His earlier polite manner and bland, helpful expression return "Perhaps this is a conversation best not had with your brotherin-law to be..." Scaitan walks in from West Wing through the Archway. Darwin glances up at the arriving guard and a look of, embarassment? passes fleetingly across his features. He manages a polite smile "Thanks you Scaitan, but surely you're mistaken. Quite presumptuous and useless... but perhaps my mother in one of her extravagent moods." He shakes his head in a what-can-you-do fashion that seems entirely false. "I regret that I may have to attend to it however. Would you forgive me if I had to take my leave of you?" Scaitan stands attentively, waiting. Sisay nods understandingly and smiles: "Of course, Milord." She raises from the table and asks: "If your guard could escort me back to my orni, I'd appreciate it greatly."
