Three Can Save Me
Health Education Standard:
-
Students will demonstrate the ability to deal with fire emergencies.
Performance Indicator:
-
Students will demonstrate the procedures that must be followed when their
clothing or hair catches fire.
Life Skills:
-
I will follow safety rules in my home.
Materials: two balls, student master
Motivation:
-
Begin this lesson by handing out the student master.
Tell them that they will be learning the song on the top of the sheet.
Teach the song by rote. Then, add the appropriate motions to the song.
-
Discuss how Stop-Drop-Roll can save a person if he or she catches fire.
A person needs to roll numerous times until the fire is completely out.
They also need to make sure they are rolling over the area that is on fire.
-
Play a modified game of Hot Potato, called Hot Fire! Game begins by one
person tossing the fire (ball or object) to another person. That person
is then ‘on fire’. They must follow the Stop-Drop-Roll procedure before
they are allowed to toss is to another student.
Evaluation:
-
Have students complete the student master by
drawing pictures to represent the Stop-Drop-Roll procedure.
