About Chinookwind Samoyeds

Chinookwind Samoyed Sled Team at Ridgway, Colorado

What is a Chinookwind? It's a strong, warm, snow-eating wind that gusts downslope on the eastern face of the Rocky Mountains.

Over the past 20 years, we have participated in conformation shows, pack hikes, skijoring, dog sledding, weight pull and obedience competition with our dogs. Although we don't do much breeding we have enjoyed extraordinary success with the dogs we've bred and owned.

We also operate a working dog supply business, featuring Agility, Sled Dog, Weight Pull, Tracking and Obedience supplies like White Pine Collars and Leads and Nordkyn Harnesses. You can check out that web site at Chinookwind Outfitters

Chinookwind is a member of the Samoyed Club of America, Organization for the Working Samoyed, Mile High Golden Retriever Club, Rocky Mountain Sled Dog Club, and Colorado Mountain Mushers Association.

  Currently, Chinookwind is the home of:

Champion Chinook'n'Tundra Winds' Skyrocket, HIC, WSX
Skyrocket has had a whirlwind show and working career, winning the 1996 SCA Grand Futurity, finishing her championship by 1 1/2 years, earning Top Sled Bitch for SCA her first year in harness, and earning her Working Samoyed Excellent degree at 3 years. Bred by Kent and Donna Dannen, Sky is the daughter of our own Ch. Saratoga's Sonic Boom. You'll see several photos of Skyrocket throughout this web page, as she's our model for dog packs. Skyrocket is also featured sitting on a dog sled with her Mom, Jenny, on our home page.

Champion Saratoga's Sonic Boom, WSX. Boomer is a sort of "foundation" stud dog for Chinookwind. Big, strong Boomer has run at wheel on our sled team for several of our most successful years of sled dog racing. These days, mostly, he is head couch potato at Chinookwind, prefering to be a rather large lap dog at 13 1/2 years old. Never specialed much, Boomer came out of "retirement" to win Best Veteran at the 1998 Samoyed Club of America Specialty Show, and Best Veteran again at the 1999 SCA Specialty, where he also earned 2nd place stud dog and the 1st Award of Merit! Boomer won Best Veteran again in the SCA 2000 Specialty.

Ch. Boomer is the sire of several stellar working and show dogs, including:

    • Ch. Tundra Winds' Kinnikinnick, WSXM;
    • Ch. Tundra Winds' 32 Degrz O'WhiteStar, WS;
    • Ch. Chinook'n'Tundra Winds' Skyrocket, WSX, HCT;
    • Ch. Sunnyside WhiteStar K'Boom, WS;
    • Chinookwind's Trek T'Saratoga, CD, WSX;
    • Ch. Orkdomain's Takin' a Shine'T'Her;
    • Ch. Orkdomain's Hyboraeal Archevnik
    • Kenosha's Packed Powder, WSX
    • Ch. Silverplume's Sky Patrol
Ch Saratoga's Sonic Boom

Chinookwind's Trek T'Saratoga, CD, WSX Trek was produced from the first litter Boomer sired. Co-owned by Chinookwind, Trek actually lives in Scottsbluff with Jeff Bott. Jeff has shown Trek occasionally, and although Trek would probably finish his championship with little trouble, his first love is weight pulling. Jeff and Trek have put together a training program for weight pull which has earned Trek top honors both in SCA and OWS, as well as in the International Weight Pull Association.

Trek was the international gold medalist for IWPA on wheels in 1996, and was the silver medalist on snow in both '96 and '97. Trek's gold and silver medals mark the first time a Samoyed has won top honors in the 35-60 pound weight class in the International Pull Off for IWPA.

FLASH! Trek does it again! He took home the GOLD on snow for IWPA 2000 in very tough conditions.

WANT TO KNOW ABOUT UPCOMING LITTERS?
We don't do a lot of breeding here at Chinookwind, preferring to focus on outstanding quality and temperaments for show, working and companions.

We do have puppies once in a great while, and we are fortunate to have some very nice girls choosing our boys at stud. And, we would be glad to refer you to kids and grand kids of ours who are expecting.
