Toyota Corolla GT-Z <SeCa> AE92
The Supercharged Days…..

When
I first purchased this car back in 1994, it was already 5 years old, but it was
in a tip top condition - still donning it's original metallic Toyota Flame Red
paint with it's 13 inch BBS gold bicycle type spoke rims.
Back then, it was powered by a 16 Valve - Twin cam
4-AFE engine. Fuel is fed into the engine through a compound carburetor. The
power churned out is not bad. Able to outrun most of the standard 1.6 cc cars
that's onMalaysian roads. Not much modifications were done to it though, I've
only installed a K&N all round air filter, a 4-2-1 mandrel bent extractor
and an RS-R Turbo Muffler for the rear with a 2.5 inch header.
3 years down the
road, the transmission was shot, so was the air conditioning unit ( the
compressors, etc.. etc..) and the list goes on. I figure if I have to change the
burned out parts one by one, the only thing left burning by the end of the day
would be my wallet. So, I purchased a Trueno GT-Z (AE92) half-cut at a fairly
good price and installed the engine and other necessities into my car. I
retained the original dashboards and upholstery because the items from the
Trueno doesn’t really fit that well into my car as holes and gaps are visible.
The power plant for the Trueno GTZ is the Super Charger
4A-GZE engine.
There
are two models of such an engine. One, which is built before 1989, which runs on
AFM (Air Flow Metering) system which can churn out 145bhp while those built
later than 1989 and runs on APM ( Air Pressure Manifold ) system churns out
about 165bhp. Mine is the 145bhp version. The power is not bad but it's not
really a match for the local 'hit' in town which is the Malaysian built Proton
Wira converted into Evo3s. These cars are implanted with the Mitsu VR4 Engine
which can churn out an incredible 220 - 280 bhp. I guess that's a class above
the ones we drive as we are only running on a 1600 cc while they are 2000 cc.
Damn… don’t I wish my car can red line and leave them far behind… these
jokers are really a pain in the ass.
I swapped the
original rims for a pair of 15inch Enkei Alloy rims and installed a set of
Michelins 195/50/15
tires. The traction offered is better than most
of the tires sold locally but the price's a real killer (especially to poor
people like myself J ). It stops on all round disc brakes, initially the stopping power
is quite responsive but after replacing the worn off front brake pads it's not
as effective. This is perhaps I was ripped off by the darn mechanics but that is
another … untold story…… in the twilight zone… ;)
I didn’t to much to the exterior styling. No added on
skirting, spoilers, front bumper lip or etc. The only spoiler this car has is
the rear deck spoiler which came as standard stock
items with the car and the added on front air scoop which came
with the Trueno Halfcut this is to provide air to the intercooler placed
on top of the engine). Exterior stylist freaks would definitely give me 2
thumbs down and a tongue sticking out if they
see my car. Too plain perhaps. But then again… that's the
point rite? ;)
