Here are some AIF and regular games that are good examples for the aspiring author. Below is a description of each game and a link to the SAIFA repository. Most of the AIF games are written in TADS, and to play them you will need the TADS interpreter for your system, available here.
Moist, by Scarlet Herring. This was one of the first AIF games written in TADS and used a revolutionary arousal system that served as the basis for a number of AIF libraries. It's considered one of the classics of the genre. The plot isn't much--your goal is to score with the queen of a fantasy land and her three servants--but it's fun to play.
Ideal High School ("HI"), by Newkid. This is one of the best AIF games around, and was the winner of the prestigious Erin award for best game pre-2003. You play a student at a New England prep school, trying to score with your gorgeous art teacher. The writing's great and characters better developed than in almost any other AIF game. While the overall plot is pretty generic, the game is really made up of a number of subplots involving the girls at your school, each of whom has a unique personality and motive. I'd love to see many more games like this.
Generic New York Apartment ("GNA"), by Newkid. Another outstanding game by Newkid. You are the custodian of an apartment building in New York City, populated by thinly disguised sitcom characters. Your goal is to get each resident to renew her lease, and some of them need a little persuasion .... As in HI, the game comprises a bunch of subplots based around individual NPCs. The characters here are as well-written as those in HI, although they're based on pre-existing characters and so lack that extra spark of originality. This game also makes great use of multimedia, including optional graphics and sound.
I-O: Jailbait on the Interstate, by Adam Cadre. You play Tracy Valencia, a sorority girl driving home from college for her birthday. The fun starts when your car breaks down in the middle of the desert. While this isn't really an AIF game--it only has a little bit of humorous sexual content--it is VERY well written and features, among other things, one of the best player characters in all of IF. A lot of the game's fun comes in trying to make Tracy do lewd things. This game in written in Inform, not TADS.
Peril in the Skies, by Adam Hendine. You play Jack Darcy, English gentleman and soldier of fortune, in his showdown with the nefarious Dr. Hades. This game actually has a meaningful plot (not just having to do with sex) which has been rare so far in AIF. In fact, the sex scenes aren't necessary to win the game, as they are in most AIF. The writing is among the best in the genre, and the main female character, Sally, is very well developed. This is a good example of a game developed using the sex.t libraries.
Gamma Gals, by Christopher Cole. This is one of the better games written in ADRIFT. Your girlfriend has invited you over to her sorority house for you to "meet" all of her sorority sisters. If you're interested in writing in ADRIFT, you should take a look at this and at Chris's other games, available at his Home Page.
Dexter Dixon , by A. Bomire. Your name is Dixon, Dexter Dixon. You're a gumshoe, a peeper, a sleuth, a snooper, in other words a Private Investigator. This game is about your quest to recover the famous Prussian Pussy, recently stolen from the gorgeous heiress Claudia Vanderbilt. The game features some great writing, a fun plot, and one of the best-ever implementations of the magic word "XYZZY." A. Bomire has other games available on his Home Page.
Prom Night, by Me and Chris Cole. It's the night of your senior prom! You can hardly believe it. After four long years, you're about to graduate. What's more, your date is Laurie Reynolds, a tall blonde on whom you've had a crush for years. Your goal, as it has been for your entire high school career, is to make it all the way with Laurie. Hopefully, you'll have some fun along the way ...
Dear Brian, by Choices. This is a well-written and implemented game that uses the newest version of TADS (TADS 3). It was the runner-up for Best Game of 2003 in the presigious Erin Awards. One interesting feature is that the protagonist can change his gender.
Ideal Pacific Coast University, by Newkid. Another great game by the well-known AIF author. As in his other games, the sex is hot and the characters well developed. This game is written in TADS 3 using an updated version of Newkid's chick.t libraries.
Here are some regular IF games that may have some interest to AIF
authors. Most of these game are written in Inform, so to play
them you will need a z-code interpreter for your system.
The PK Girl. An anime game written in ADRIFT. Lots of cute girls to interact with. A must-play for aspiring ADRIFT authors.
