The SIRENA Story
Sirena Gets Christened:
Nearly a month
had passed from the arrival of Sirena at Yokohama port. She had been motored and sailed several
times before her name was decided. In fact
deciding the name for the boat had been one of the hardest parts of the whole
process. A boat must have a name and
in keeping with tradition we held an official Christening Ceremony for Sirena
on Saturday,
21 June 2003 at
her Slip in the marina.

The weather was
beautiful, which was very fortunate during the Japanese rainy season. Yoshie’s parents were visiting us and so
were able to participate in this joyous occasion.

Brian gave a
thrilling tri-lingual delivery of the Christening Speech, invoking the blessings of the Gods and we all
joined in a Kampai in honor of
Sirena, the Sea, and the mariners of old preceding us.

The ceremony
ended with Bobby pouring the remainder of the bubbly stuff on the bow of Sirena.

And then we
shoved off for our maiden voyage in this newly Christened ship.
