Riotous madness that sets out to debunk haughty/authoritive types. This game is the product of JALECO whose games always had an 'unfinished,' anarchic quailty that served to make some rather off-beat titles of which 'Scud Hammer' is one.
One of the most famous (and justly so) arcade games ever made. 'Outrun' began an exceptional run of outstanding games that put SEGA at the cutting edge of arcade gaming. Outrun provided a sunny, scenic ride with high-quality responsive controls - one of the greats.
Richly atmospheric venture into gothic horror. It takes classical horror motifs and employs them to striking effect in this refined 'platform' game from 'Konami.' This in one of only three games that I could conquer with one credit.
'Double Dragon' is the archetype scrolling punch-up game. It presents rough, coarse thuggery in a fluidly playable game that is still enjoyable all these years on from first release.
'Data East' hit the bigtime with this superior platform game that uses the 'Robocop' license to maximum effect. Clear-cut gameplay ensues thanks to tight programming that was in no way constraining as it often was in other D' East titles.
'Konami had the knack of providing popular, low-cost games that always produced favourable results. 'Aliens' delivers a satisfying romp as you war against droves of extraterrestials. A respectable, surefooted game that dishes up a solid challenge.
A remarkable descent into outright gore. 'Namco' took a most unusual and rather radical route when they fashioned this grusome side-scroller. It exudes a forbidding putridity that is most unlike games of this period.
Impeccable, exemplary side-scroller. Perfectly composed game that manages to excel in every direction. Understated and deftly executed, 'Shinobi' is the embodiment of arcade excellence.
High-tech mechanoids are at war in this heroic epic. 'Namco' were so proud of this effort that they hailed it as 'one of their all time best.' It certainly is a lavish game with expansive music in accord with sumptous visuals, and yet it fails to incur the sense of awe it seems so sure of recieving.
Konamis' parody of the shoot-em-up genre manages to surpass the very games it's spoofing! Kitsch and gaudy, Parodious is actually a supremely enjoyable, accomplished shooter.
