He wasn't just a driver 
The way it was to be 
He captured hearts of many 
The man who drove the "3" 

We watched each year so eagerly 
The man who wore the black 
How many races could he win? 
How could he drive like that? 

He was on the bumper and in the mirror 
Of drivers who would later 
Nickname this special crazy driver 
We knew as "The Intimidator" 

He really couldn't help it 
The man some loved to hate 
Racing was what he loved to do 
He had to Intimidate 

He was a seven-time champion 
He was looking for number eight 
We learned the first race this year 
It was not to be his fate 

NASCAR has lost a legend 
Dale Earnhardt was "The Man" 
But he will never be forgotten 
We will always be his fan 

Even though he's not as close 
As we would want him to be 
He's looking down from Heaven
