TACTICS
Here are some of the tactics that have brought me so much success on the game. Hopefully they will be as helpful to you as they have been for me.
Formation: I regulary use a 4-4-2 formation which is well balanced and simple.

Aggression: I normally have it at about half way across the meter. If it is too high you will get loads of red cards and if it is too low your players won't get stuck in.

With Ball: I play a short pass which means there is less risk of losing the ball. If you use long ball then it has to be because your players are not too skilled. There is also a larger risk of losing it with long ball.

Without Ball: I just play normal without the ball. That means your players will just play a balanced defensive style rather than concentrating on one thing.

Individual Orders:

With Ball: Full Backs, Left mid and Right mid should all be crossing, so you can get plenty of crosses in for your strikers. Central midfielders should be using through pass so they are creating chances for your strikers. Strikers and Central Defenders should have normal.

Without Ball: Central Defenders should have Hard tackling as they are the last line of defence and so they need to get desperate tackles in. Full backs and strikers should have Press so they try and force the opponents into mistakes.  In the full backs case they will stop crosses going into the box, and the strikers will force the oppositions defenders into mistakes and they may get a goal because of it. and all the midfielders should have contain. so they just contain the play from midfield and stop them creating much in midfield.

This is the tactics page.  On here I tell you the tactics which have brought me so much success.  Also i tell you my training regime which has groomed my players into the best.  These tactics have always worked for me and hopefully if you use them then they'll work the same for you.  Also i will try to tell you some alternative tactics and i will describe to you some of the orders you give to players.
TRAINING
Here is the training regime that I have used since I got the game.  It should help your players realise their best skill levels a lot quicker than if you just give them the regime that your assistant manager recommends.
If league matches are mainly played on Saturday. (i.e. England)

Monday - Fitness
Tuesday - Skills (D - Tackling, M - Passing, A -                            Shooting)
Wednesday - Rest
Thursday - Skills
Friday - General
Saturday - Rest
Sunday - Practice Match
If league matches are mainly played on Sunday. (i.e. Italy)

Monday - Fitness
Tuesday - Skills (D - Tackling, M - Passing, A -                            Shooting
Wednesday - Rest
Thursday - Skills
Friday - General
Saturday - Practice Match
Sunday - Rest
By Fitness Training I mean things like Endurance and Jogging.  I recommend Endurance for Pre-Season to increase stamina levels so your players are fit for the new season.  Also have the Endurance training at full intensity.  Then when the stamina of your players is at a satisfactory level switch to jogging and have it on minimum intensity to give your players a bit more of a rest for the rest of the season.

By Skills Training I mean things like Shooting, Tackling and Passing.  Obviously depending on position your players will have different Training.  You won't give a Defender Shooting Training because he won't really get in positions to have a shot.  For Goalkeepers they should have Goalkeeping Training all season as there isn't really any other training option that is fully suitable for them.  That should be enough to improve the skills they need.

Outfield players are different however as their Training needs alternating as the season goes on.  The training regime is different for each position.  As it says on the above tables one of the skill days should be Tackling, Passing and Shooting for Defenders, Midfielders and Attackers respectively.  That should go on all year round.  For the other day though the type of Training should change every 2 months so the players stats can keep more balanced and your players are better overall players.  For Defenders they should have something like Heading or Sprinting.  Midfielders should have Shooting or Tackling.  Attackers should have Heading and Sprinting.  You should though include other skills in the training as those are just ones off the top of my head.  As long as its beneficial then it doesn't really matter what it is.

You can also assign players individual training if you want players to work on a certain area of their game.  You can get them working with other groups as well as in individual training so they can get some normal training.
Even if you don't use the formation i recommend just remember to play to your teams strengths.  If your player has poor shooting then don't tell him to have long shots.  Make sure your team has balance if you decide to make up a custom formation.  You also need cover in all positions.  Its no good when a player gets injured not having another one to replace him.  A big squad is important to success.  Versatile players are also good.  If you have a player that can play in 3 different positions on the bench or in the team then you can just switch them if someone gets injured without weakening the team.

Also your players will play better if they are on the same side as their best foot.  Say you were playing a right footed player on the left side of your attack then he will play better on the right side of the attack.  Players that are either footed will play the same on either side.  A good example is Owen Hargreaves of Bayern Munich who is young, cheap at the start and can play RM, LM, & CM.  He is also either footed so it doesn't matter which side he plays on.

If you don't understand any of the terms used in the game then just look in the back of the manual.  If you don't have a manual for whatever reason then just ask on the guestbook.
