THE COMPUTER LITERACY TRAINING CENTER at Siquijor State College - was established on September 27, 1996 with funding support from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). Initially, DOST provided P 612,000.00 from DOST-GIA for the acquisition of fifteen (15) computer units with printers, necessary software and air conditioning  system for the center. As envisioned, the center is becoming the premier information technology training and development center on the island

     TO PROVIDE INITIAL facilities necessary for training in special and advanced computer courses for students and professionals.
     TO ENCOURAGE INDUSTRIES to improve their operations and productivity through the application of available IT packages or those which can be developed using the facilities of the center.T
     TO ENCOURAGE the host academic institution to develop computer oriented curriculums, needed to equip graduates with skills needed by the industry.

Since it began operation, the center has  successfully developing computer literacy through the use of training.
     Using  short courses for  students, government employees, members of the business sectors and the general public.

     CITING THE DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY goal in developing the country into the Asia-Pacific region's information technology (IT) and knowledge-based industry center, science secretary Filemon Uriarte. Jr. Underscored the important role knowledge-economy plays in a nation's economic development.
      HE ALSO STRESSED the need for the country to shift from productive capacity to knowledge-based industries in order to achieve the goal.

      WITH THIS SHIFT in development brought about by this type of economy the need for computer literacy on the part students, government employees, members of the business sectors and the general public.
Will rapidely increase and Siquijor state College will be ready to meet these needs.
