..en er was Di-Rect!
Op dag 1 was er een plan
Wij schrijven Oktober 1999, Jamie Westland (drummer) en Dick Westland (inspirator) slaan de handen ineen met Dennis van Hoorn (gevierde haagse muzikant) om een jonge band te formeren.
Op dag 2 was er de geboorte
Nog geen maand later zijn vier jonge, getalenteerde muzikanten bij elkaar die de click Di-Rect voelen: Tim Akkerman (19 jaar, zanger/gitarist), Frans van Zoest (15 jaar, gitarist/backingvocals), Bas van Wageningen (17 jaar, bassist) en Jamie Westland (15 jaar, drummer).
Op dag 3 was er het eerste kindje
Tim was al enige tijd actief met het componeren van songs. Binnen enkele maanden werkt hij samen met de band vijf stukken uit die vast worden gelegd op een demo CD.
Op dag 4 was er erkenning
Bij toeval ziet Rob Stenders (DJ 3FM) de band optreden en raakt buitensporig enthousiast. Enkele dagen later draait hij ? Just The Way I Do? op de nationale radio en de gekte breekt los.
Op dag 5 was er een partner
Edwin Jansen (AT Productions), manager van Anouk, Kane en Billy the Kid hoort ?Just The Way I Do? op 3FM en herkent onmiddellijk de song die hij een week eerder hoorde op een van de vele demo?s die wekelijks worden ontvangen. Het vermoeden bleek juist: Deze band is, ondanks de ?maagdelijkheid? absoluut uniek. De jongens tekenen bij AT Productions en binnen enkele weken is er interesse van vele grote platenmaatschappijen. Na twee maanden is er een deal met Dino Music.
Op dag 6 was er begeleiding
Dinand Woesthoff (zanger Kane) en Dennis van Leeuwen (gitarist Kane) zien de band live spelen en besluiten zonder aarzeling het ontwikkelingstraject naar het eerste album op zich te nemen. Een half jaar lang gaat samengewerkt worden aan de composities en de live performance.
Op dag 7 is er niets meer buiten Di-Rect
In de aankomende periode zal Di-Rect regelmatig live te zien en te horen zijn. Zo spelen zij onder andere in het voorprogramma van Kane in de nationale clubtour ?As Long As You Want This ? 2000? en zullen zij op diverse festivals te vinden zijn. Begin 2001 zal de eerste single uitgebracht worden.
