Several serial killers of Shias arrested in Karachi

KARACHI, March 18: Police arrested two suspects in the city on Monday for their alleged involvement in sectarian killings. The suspects confessed to have killed five Shias , including a doctor and a health inspector, police said.

On a tip-off, police raided spotted places in Orangi Town and New Karachi Industrial Area, where they arrested Irfan Islam and Abdul Wudood and recovered two mouser guns from their possession.

The SSP Investigation-II, Manzoor Mughal, said the suspects told police that they shot dead Dr Karamat Husain (more) at his clinic in Orangi Extension on October 29, 2000. The suspects also kidnapped and killed health inspector Shamim Ahmed, and dumped the body in Orangi Town. They also killed three other Shias.

Three other victims killed by them were Mochi Baba of Islam Chowk, Quayum Baba of Gulshan-e-Bihar and Zahid of Sabri Chowk. They revealed the names of their accomplices as Saifullah, Habib, Nasim and Mufti Bengali. Two of their other accomplices namely Tariq Shafi alias Doctor and M Wasim alias Commando were already in the jail. They also revealed that they killed the said people on the directives of certain prominent figures.

During interrogation, they disclosed the names of their accomplices. Police were conducting raids to arrest them. The names of the accomplices were being kept secret, police added.

The city police, chief Asad Jehangir, during a press conference on March 15 had claimed that police had arrested six suspects allegedly involved in the killing of 27 people, including six doctors. He said the arrested suspects were affiliated with the banned organizations, the Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan and the Lashkar-i-Jhangavi.

Those arrested were Arif alias Jihadi, Mohammed Ejaz, Mehmood Babar, Zeeshan Siraj, Mohammed Imran and Roshan Zia. The city police chief also said police had taken 125 people into preventive custody on the eve of Muharram.

Six held for sectarian killings
KARACHI, March 15: The Karachi police have arrested six workers of religious organizations involved in sectarian killings during 1996-2001, said Asad Jehangir, Additional Inspector General, Karachi.

Speaking at a press conference here on Friday, he said the arrested persons are workers of defunct Sipah-Sahaba Pakistan and Lashkar-i-Jhangvi.

The alleged killers were identified as Arif Jehadi, Mohammed Ejaz alias Samiullah, Mehmood Babar alias Sabir, Zeeshan Siraj, Mohammed Imran and Roshan Raza. They are all involved in at least 27 major incidents of sectarian killings in Karachi, including that of six doctors, Asad Jehangir said. He said Mehmood Babar alias Sabir was involved in at least 27 murders.

The AIG said police are tracing three other wanted killers identified as Lal Mohammed, Babar and Usman Baloch. They are all residents of Karachi. He said the police recovered six TT pistols from their possession. Referring to recent killing of doctors in Karachi, he said so far no arrest had been made in fresh killings.-APP
