QUETTA March 18: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a religious
party activist in Machh on Monday, police said. Haji Jan Mohammad was
gunned down soon after he left his home in Machh, 65 km south off
here, to attend a religious gathering for Muharram, senior police
officer Fateh Sher Joya said. Gunmen sprayed the victim with bullets
before fleeing on a motorbike, Joya told reporters. "We have
arrested some suspects and an investigation is underway" to
determine the killers' motive, he said. Family members described the
shooting as a sectarian attack, insisting that Jan Mohammad had
"no enemies". Jan Mohammad was a member of the local
municipal council and belonged to the main religious organisation in
Machh.
