Police killed Three Lashkar-i-Jhangvi serial killers in Vehari

VEHARI, March 14: Three Lashkar-i-Jhangvi terrorists, one of them carrying Rs 500,000 head money, were killed in an encounter with police on Wednesday night.

Vehari SSP Dr Jamil Ahmed told a press conference here on Thursday that Fiaz Ahmad Tarar, Javed Iqbal Rajpoot and Mohammad Amjad had been involved in several terrorist attacks and murders. Fiaz carried the head money, he added.

He said a city police station team had set up a picket on the Vehari-Khanewal Road. They signalled three motorcyclists who were going to Khanewal to stop. But they did not stop the motorcycle. The police team chased them. They opened fire on the police near Chak 180-EB. Police returned the fire and the three men were killed in the encounter. SSP Ahmad said they had been identified as the Lashkar terrorists after their death.

A Kalashnikov, two pistols and press cards of an Urdu-language daily were recovered from their possession. Besides, a document containing names of some prominent personalities who were on hit list of the terrorists were also recovered.

The police found the address of proclaimed offender Munir Ahmad during the checking of the documents and raided his house in Chak 81-WB Thingi Colony on Thursday and arrested him. Four hand grenades, one rifle and 82 bullets were recovered from his possession.

The SSP said that the Lashkar men had murdered Vehari district Nazim's uncle Ahmad Yar Khichi (more) on Oct 19, 2001, Allama Nazir Ahmad in Oct 2001, and Dr Tanvir Shah (more) on 26 Feb, 2001. He said the terrorists were close associates of Riaz Basra (more) and Shakil Anwar (more).

Four persons arrested for killing: IG
KARACHI, March 14: Four persons involved in the killings of doctors in the city have been arrested, IGP Sindh Syed Kamal Shah told the PMA members here on Thursday.

Sindh home secretary, Brig Mukhtar Ahmed, capital police officer Asad Jehangir and DIG operations Tariq Jamil were also present on the occasion. The IGP told that a man involved in one of the killing incidents had been arrested and the information given by him had led to the arrest of two more accused.

He added that an accused named Ejaz Sami had also been arrested, while his three accomplices were still at large.

The IGP said that it would be suggested to the government that doctors be issued licences for weapons for their protection. The IGP stated that a list had been sought from the PMA for the provision of security guards to the doctors.-APP
