Factory GM Syed Hasan Abidi shot dead in Karachi

KARACHI, Nov 15: Unidentified assailants shot a general manager of a factory to death and wounded his colleague in Baloch Colony on Thursday morning.
The police said that Syed Hasan Abidi, aged 55, general manager finance, and Amir Abbas, aged 27, assistant manager, at Abbas Dyeing Mill, were on their way in a car (ADJ-112) to the factory from their Gulshan-i-Iqbal residence. They were intercepted by two unidentified men, riding on a motorcycle, near the City School PAF Chapter in Baloch Colony close to the traffic signal.
The unidentified assailants opened fire on the occupants of the car seriously wounding both of them. The wounded men were rushed to JPMC where doctors pronounced Syed Hasan Abidi dead on arrival.
Amir Abbas, who was seriously injured in the attack, was later shifted to a private hospital.
According to witnesses, the injured men were shifted to the JPMC before the police arrived at the place of incident. The incident occurred in Baloch Colony area, but the exact spot where the incident took place falls in the limits of Korangi Industrial Area police, sources said.
The funeral prayer of the dead man was held at Imambargah Khair-ul-Amal in Ancholi Society in the evening.
Three LJ activists get death penalty

KARACHI, July 6: Judge Haq Nawaz Baloch of the Anti-Terrorism Court No. 5 on Tuesday awarded death penalty to three workers of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi in five sectarian murder cases.
Ataullah, Mohammed Azam and Mohammed Riaz stood quiet behind the bars as the judge announced the verdict inside the Central Prison around 1pm. The judge also ordered confiscation of convicts' properties worth Rs500,000 each in every murder case.
Ataullah, already condemned to death in several other sectarian murder cases, was sentenced to death in all five murder cases, while Mohammad Azam, a co-accused in four cases, was awarded death penalty in three cases as he was acquitted in one of the cases.
Ataullah was sentenced to death for killing a factory-owner in Korangi Industrial Area.
Co-accused Azam was, however, acquitted in the case. Syed Hasan Abidi was going to his factory with his accountant, Amir Abbas, in his car. As he slowed down the car on a speed-breaker, two attackers on a motorbike opened fire on them. Abidi died instantly and Abbas suffered bullet wounds.
The judge also sentenced Ataullah to a seven-year term for injuring the victim's accountant. He was fined Rs50,000 and he would have to undergo an additional six-month term in case of default on the payment.
