KARACHI Sep 10 2001: Terrorists
gunned down a senior official of the PTCL in an ambush on
Monday. Capt (Retd) Altaf Hussain Bungash, 45, was
Divisional Engineer (DE) of PTCL, posted at Pak Capital
Exchange. According to family sources and witnesses, the
victim left his house in Gulshan-e-Iqbal in his van for
office. As soon as he took a turn near Sabzi Mandi in PIB
Colony police precinct three unknown assassins, riding a
motorbike, intercepted him. Two of them opened fire from
the rear side of the vehicle forcing him to stop, while
the third one shot and injured him critically. The
assailants escaped under the cover of heavy aerial
firing.
"He received four bullets and was gasping when police transported him to hospital where he died," said SSP East, Rehmat Khan Mehsood. "Apparently, it was a sectarian killing, as information gathered so far indicates that he had no enmity." Altaf was the third person in his family killed in a similar way. His father-in-law Safar Ali Bungash and brother-in-law Rajab Ali Bungash were killed in ambush in Timber Market area two years ago.
