As his car (C-9010) entered the narrow lane leading to his clinic, the assassins intercepted and sprayed volley of bullets causing his instant death. Later, the killers made their escape well, before anyone could see them.
Hearing the gunshot, the neighboring residents called the police who reached the scene and dispatched the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. "So far we have gathered the information that the killers were three and they were riding a motorbike," District Central Police Chief, SSP Syed Shaukat Ali Shah said.
Family sources told The News that the slain doctor was running his clinic for years in North Nazimabad. He was the father of six and as per routine he was going to open his clinic while he was shot dead. President of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), Dr Tipu Sultan, while expressing his shock over the assassination of Dr Ishrat, demanded stern security measures to provide security to doctors, serving the masses.
"We would consider to go on strike against the violence against doctors as the government seems to be failed in providing security to us," the PMA chief said, adding, most of our colleagues, fearing threat to their lives, are now considering to leave the country. Dr Shakoor Bhatti, President of Pakistan Doctors Forum also condemned the assassinations of 70 doctors and demanded of the authorities to pay compensations to the heirs of the slain doctors.
