KARACHI Sept 1 2001: Unidentified terrorists on Saturday gunned down three people, including an aged father of a worldwide TV network's country chief, a reporter of a news agency and an honorary secretary-general of a private welfare trust, police and hospital sources said.

Hamid Rizvi, 75-year-old father of Star TV's country chief Mehmood Rizvi and brother of the well known eye specialist Dr IH Rizvi, was the first victim of the day. Rizvi left his bungalow at Khayaban-e-Shaheen at noon in his Dubai-numbered car, sources said, while quoting eyewitnesses. As he reached Zamzama Boulevard, two motorcyclists intercepted his car and one of them fired bullets at him. Consequently, Rizvi died on the spot and the gunmen fled from the scene.

Someone identified Rizvi and informed his family, who shifted him to the Mideast Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. His body was shifted to the morgue of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy.

Sindh chief of Tehrik-e-Jafria Pakistan Allama Hasan Turabi has blamed their sectarian rivals for the killing of Hamid Rizvi.

Asadullah Khan, a reporter of Kashmir Press International (KPI) news agency, was shot dead at Shahrah-e-Faisal. Asad was on his way by his motorbike. When he reached near Pir Bukhari Mazar, unknown armed men intercepted him and shot him dead, said a witness at JPMC. Anwar Nasim Channa, 55-year-old Chairman of a non-governmental organisation (NGO) Aalamgir Welfare Trust, was gunned down near his office in Bahadurabad.

Channa was on his way in his high-roof vehicle when two motorcyclists sprayed bullets at his van, killing him instantly, said one police official. The terrorists escaped from the spot. "What can I do if people are being murdered," SSP East Rehmat Khan Mehsood said, when his comments were sought on killings. The News repeatedly tried to contact DIG Karachi Tariq Jamil, but every time his staff said that he was not available.
