LAHORE: Life term for SSP man

LAHORE, Dec 22: An anti-terrorism court on Wednesday sentenced a Sipah-i-Sahaba member to life imprisonment on eight counts for taking part in the murder of eight people on sectarian basis.

The incident took place in Warburton, Sheikhupura district, on Aug 9, 1997. Convict Abdul Ghaffar was one of the five people who rode on motorcycles picking their targets one by one and his role was limited to identifying those sought to be killed.

Two of the accused, Hafiz Zahurul Haq and Aslam Muawia, are still at large and two are unindentified.

The victims were; Iftikhar Ali Shah, Mazhar Husain, Muhammad Tufail, Muhammad Afzal, Mazahir Husain, Qamar Abbas, Tariq Maan and Mushtaq Ahmad.
