ISLAMABAD, Sept 27: The additional district and sessions judge, Islamabad, Safdar Hussain Malik, acquitted two alleged assassins of late Allama Mureed Abbas Yazdani after recording statements of two witnesses here on Thursday.
According to the prosecution, the two accused, Ghulam Qamar and Shabbir Hussain, had allegedly shot Allama Yazdani dead at his residence in Sector I-10/4, Islamabad, on September 12, 1996.
The police had arrested Ghulam Qamar and Shabbir Hussain on the complaint lodged with the I-9 police by Ghulam Raza Jaffer, an office-bearer of the party of the slain leader.
Two brothers Altaf Hussain and Safeer Hussain were the principal witnesses of the incident. The two witnesses while appearing before the court on Thursday submitted that they belonged to Khanewal and since the two accused also belonged to the same city, they had been subjected to questioning by the police.
