Worth Fighting For

Authors note: This picture is the motivation for the drouble

Sam looked out over the dying landscape from the top of a crumbling rampart in Osgiliath, towards Mordor.

There are some things in this world worth fighting for, Sam thought, but the fight is getting harder and harder.

In the time he had been in Osgiliath, Sam had seen Frodo fall deeper and deeper under the spell of the ring, as the servants of Sauron loomed closer. The large shadows of the Nazgul acted like living metaphors for the dread that slowly encompassed his master.

He felt as though he had failed to be Frodo's anchor, the tenuous link that tethered the ringbearer to the job that the fellowship had set out to complete.

His heart ached with the longing to simply hold Frodo in his arms, to see those brilliant blue eyes, unclouded, looking back at him. But his master shunned all contact and was too paranoid to allow anyone to get too close.

The world weighed heavy on the shoulders of the small gardener as he fretted on failing stone structures, feeling very inadequate for the job that was at hand.

Yes, Frodo was indeed worth fighting for …………. but it may well be a fight to the death.
