| Lair of the Ice Dragon |
| Eager to get out of the mountain and back to the surface, you head into the icy cavern. The walls are all covered with a thick frosting of ice, and your hands and arms burn with cold whenever they brush against one. You shiver, longing for warmth and thinking maybe the smokey tunnell would have been a better choice afterall. Soon you feel numb head to toe, but you force yourself to continue. At last you reach a comfortabley sized cave, made slightly cramped by icicles and frost thick enough to resemble snow on every stone. There seems to be a small, still pool frozon solid in the center of the room, with an enormous boulder next to it, covered, of course, in snow. The area is truly beautiful, but you don't really appreciate it too much, looking only along the walls for the exit. You do, however, appreciate it when the boulder moves, and proves itself to be a huge blue and white dragon. You gape at the creature in astonishment, and it glares back at you for a full minute before speaking, much to your further surprise. "What are you doing here, human? Who are you?" Quickly you stammer out your name, then explain that you're trying to find a way out of the mountain. The dragon looks at you consideringly, and you have the feeling that if it could frown, it would right now. He seems to decide you are harmless, or at least no good meal, though, for he nods, then speaks again in that loud, cold voice. "Very well. One way out of the caves is on the other side of this pool. Follow the left wall, and you will be on your way," he pauses, then adds gravely, "Unless you offend me, of course. It is rare that a meal walk blindly into my jaws." You have a feeling that the dragon might be lying about eating you, but you decide it would be wiser to stay on the save side of caution. You quickly stammer out a thanks, then move along the left wall, eyes on the dragon and trying not to run. Eventually you come to the opening he spoke of, and you duck inside. |
