You make the decision to move southwards, toward the deserts you can see at the base of the moutain. There is no path, making walking a little tricky, and you keep your eyes to the ground to watch your footing. Lukily the slope of this side is very gradual and easily traveled, despite loose stones and the occasional rough spot. Finally you reach the foot of the mountain after fighting through a fair bit of braken growing amoung the stones. You slide down a particularly steep bit of rock, and land at what appears to be a rather large tunnel. Peering inside, you can see wooden supports positioned regularly--a mine. You peak inside curiously, then take a few cautious steps inside. Almost immediately, you hear a loud roar. You jump backwards in shock, almost falling in your haste. You hear a soft chuckle from behind you, and glance over your shoulder to see Caelum, dressed in his customary sandy browns and beiges. With his dusky skin and dark hair, he'd blend into the scenery indestiguishably but for the deep red cloak belted around him. He leans that oddly glowing cresent moon staff against one of the mine supports, and helps you steady yourself.  "Faolin, that was very very rude!" he calls down the shaft, giving you a glance and reassuring smile. "That gold hatchling I mentioned to you has indeed elected to live here, and I believe he just...ah...introduced himself to you." he tells you in an undertone, laughing a little under his breath. Then he turns back to the cavern, and you follow his gaze as a surprisingly small golden head appears. "It was not. I told you, no one goes in my mines but ME. And I told you I'd bite any one who tried. I told you." the little one informs Caelum sulkily, before opening his mouth and snapping his jaws

closed at you, as if to show you that he'dstill like to bite. You stare at him for a momment, thinking that he's actually really cute, although you can't imagine how a creature that tiny made that loud and intimidating sound. You glance back at Caelum, who's grinning maniacally at the little hatchling, and notice with surprise that his eyes are almost the
exact shade of the hatchlings. Perhaps a little. darker, but not much. "Now, now, this is an old friend of mine, and he didn't know you'd come to stay here--you weren't here during his last visit. Perhaps we should put up a 'danger-do not enter' sign?" the man says, with only the faintest of smiles and a slight twinkle of laughter in his eyes betraying him. Faolin doesn't seem to notice, being too taken with the idea of
a danger sign. He crouches, apparently thinking the proposal over. "Yes, you should. I won't bite your friend. But he better not try and snoop again!" the hatchling says seriously. You promise not to even attempt to look in the mine, and Caelum laughs. "Ah, good, we're all friends now. I'll see about your sign, little hunter, although it won't do much to intice settlers to my city, will it? And how will either of us ever find a mate then, hmmm?" The dragonling gives Caelum a look of utter disgust. "EEeeeew. Good. I don't want one. Yuck." Then he sniffs the air. "Did you bring me dinner?" he asks the man hopefully. Your friend ignores him, turning to you. "Are you going into the deserts again? We've moved the well--we had a bit of a landslide and that poor pretty fountain was shattered. But not before my sister had taken that delicate beauty of a flower to the forests. I hear it's thriving nicely, and she adores it--she's an herbal healer and it's rare for her to find a plant she doesn't know of yet, as she rarely leaves her wood." he begins walking a little off into the desert as he speaks, motioning for you to follow him. You spot a well, and realize this is your destination. The hatchling follows close behind, muttering about his empty stomach. "Any way, I don't suppose you have that water skin? No? Eh, well, we've started keeping a few around the stations since then. We'll see you set for travel." Caelum draws a bucket of water from the well, pouring some into a new water skin for you before offering some to Faolin, who eagerly slurps it up. "Well, then, you're about set to go. Safe journey, my friend."  Clearly, you're already out of his mind, as he turns to Faolin. "Well then, we ought to see about your dinner, shouldn't we?"  You smile to yourself and set off. You can still hear the hatchling's enthusiastic affirmative even after both of them are long out of sight.
